Title: Stray wire advice - reels
Post by: timcdfw on October 31, 2020, 09:50:43 AM
Just located a wire that looks like it has popped off...
There is also a switch That has old solder and no wire attached.
Someone had stuffed this wire under the cable tie... but I’m guessing this yellow wire may connect to one of those prongs on that switch?

The reels are working but 2&3 are stopping out of order...Thought this may be why

Any advice on where this wire might go or what prong I should solder it to would be appreciated

😬

what's the full model number of the machine on the plate below the handle?

the microswitch looks like it closes when the reel 2 wiper arm is pulled back before the spin.  Don't recall bally ever needed that, so it may be someone added by someone.  Since the wire looks kinda not part of the bally harness, see if you can trace where it goes.  To a meter?

reel latching is purely mechanical.  If reel 3 latches before reel 2, then look for sticking pieces with the timer links under the reels ... the bars that run from the front to the back.  You should be able to push on the link end and it slides freely with the pieces on the shafts rotating.

the timer link should be longest on reel 1 and shortest on reel 3.  There's holes to adjust the length, but on a 3-reel game usually reel 1 uses the 2nd hole, then each successive reel uses the next hole needed to make the link shorter.

Thanks Wolff,
For some reason the ID plate was removed before I acquired it.  There are inspection stickers inside stating 1113 but I dont think thats accurate?

I decided to not hook up that wire...aint broke dont fix it......as it doesnt seem to affect anyting. (Jackpot bell isnt working but not sure thats it)

But took your advice on the timer links and cleaned and re-lubed. That was it!

They are now kicking off as normal and stopping in order...finally.  Took a while to get the rhythm but now they are rocking along perfectly.

Now the only issue remaining is a sometimes delay between coin in and handle release.  Usually its instant.....but sometimes its like the though process gets delayed (I know the feeling).....it usually unlocks the handle within 5-10 seconds when its delayed.

Its not a deal breaker but I'd love to knock that out too.......

Thanks again for the tips! I appreciate it  :hail:

The wire was probably aftermarket, or personal mod. It is not in original loom. Let us know where it goes, comes from...? Perhaps a do it yourself 1st reel snap switch type thing on another reel?

You may be onto something.....One of the timing links on one reel looks different and has a lever attached...NO idea if that is standard.

I'll upload a pic soon

OK here are the pics.....and you can see some sort of different arm on reel three with a wheel and latch....

Is this factory?
I have no idea....

the timer link with the variator is ok.  Every spin the cog nudges around and slightly changes the length of the link, which in turn changes the duration of the reel spin and randomizes the result a bit more.

the handle release relay issue could be mecnical or electrical.  See if the assembly is gummy and the armature plate is kinda sticking to the release cam.

electrically the most likely thing is a switch in the circuit is flaky ... not closing reliably.  There's a few switches in the circuit, but the main ones are on the coin relay (left side of reel mech, bottom/back) and a switch on the handle release assembly - follow the non-orange wire from the coil.

I'll try and get some possibilities on what the machine is tomorrow.  If you get a chance, there's numbers stamped into the slotted metal reel index discs, an M-645-xxx number on the payout ccounter disc, and a video if the reels spinning so can see what symbols are on the tapes helps.

Ah that makes sense on the variation...thank you.

I've added some more pics of reels with numbers...let me know if you cant see and I can try again.

Also the symbols

the p-684-[297, 298, 299] index discs were used in the low percentage (93.17%) versions of the 1088 and 1113 - left-right pay, 3-coin buy-a-pay machines.

your game may be a mashup.  The 1113 was a lowboy slot (no top glass/compartment) with narrower reels, while the 1088 was the tall version with top glass but wide reels.

you seem to have a 1113 reel mech in a 1088 cabinet, and a top glass that was probably specific to the Hilton casino.

in any case, the paperwork for the 1088 and 1113 is on http://bingo.cdyn.com/slots/ (http://bingo.cdyn.com/slots/) - use whichever is closest to the plug configuration you have.  The main game circuits are the same for both.

take a look at the handle release coil on the schem and follow the circuit straight up to see which switches are in the circuit.   If your handle release doesn't immediately trip, jiggling the handle may move the dashpot switch, and the rest of the switches are all over the place, so the plug connections could be flaky too.

It is amazing to me how many versions of those Bally slot machines could be created by modifying existing machines.
