Title: Tips on Noisy Reels?
Post by: marcbollinger on January 06, 2022, 08:51:48 AM
Hey all,

Does anybody have any tips on how to clean or what can be done to reduce the noise of the BB2 reels? It's especially noticeable when the reels perform the anticipation spin (fast to slow).

Thank you!
Marc

Sounds like shaft bearings going bad doesn't it Marc?  :Scratch-Head

Haven't ever had the chance to open up a WMS BB reel stepper, I wonder if there's supposed to be a bit of dielectric grease inside there or is it supposed to be dry? :scratch-head_2: Loctite makes some that I used to use on my electric train motors....it may help quiet it down but I'd check a quiet one first to see what's inside.

First thing to try is to re-tape the strips. Pull them a little tighter and re-tape. Over time the glue or tape or whatever you use gets loose and 95% of the time the noise you hear is the strips vibrating on the cage.

Thanks guys - I want to say they are noisy even without the strips on the reels, but I'll tinker with that. I'm cautious about adding grease to anything, but I'll look at the assembly and see if there is any evidence of it.
