I just purchased a WMS Bluebird with a WBA validator, that makes a LOUD GRINDING noise when inserting bills. ANY thoughts?

Does the BV jam or throw any errors? The grinding noise may be coming from the gears on the housing that meet with the cash-can gears. Check your guide pins on each side of the cash-can to see if they are loose. And make sure the lever on the right is pushed all they way up when the can is inserted.

No there are no jams or errors. Accepts bills fine, but I am a little concerned from the noise
that it MAY be worn (or wearing) out and may cause other issues. We just got the game
delivered yesterday.

WBA validators are kind of noisy to begin with, plus they are old and have a lot of wear on them.  If it is not jamming or giving you any errors, I wouldn't worry about it.  If the noise just bugs you, you can carefully lube the gears and axles with some WD 40.  Be careful to use small amounts at a time and not get the stuff all over the mechanism.  This will help reduce the noise, but even brand new WBA validators will have a grinding noise to them.

OK, Thanks. We have a Bally Alpha S9000 & an IGT Game King and NEITHER of them make a grinding noise,
so was just worried about an underlying issue.. Will try to lube & keep an eye (ear) on it...

make sure the 2 small screws behind cash box on back wall are tight sometime round head screws won't let cash box go all the way in  so you get that noise

Then we have different definitions of what a grinding noise is.  All WBA's I have in my machines make a particular grinding noise, some of them sound a bit more "stressed" than others, like the motors appear to work harder, these are the ones I lube and then it makes a "less stressed" sound, but they are not nearly as quiet as say a Mars or even the new UBA's.  I will post a recording of my WBA's sound like so you can compare.

I use a dab 3in1 oil on the gear shafts where they pass through the frame and a dab of electronics grease on the gears themselves. Really quiets it down and stays in place for a long time. WD40 dries up pretty quick, more of a cleaner than a lube

I am going to give the 3 in 1 a try.  I've always been paranoid of creating more "gunk" inside the machine, that is why I've always chosen to use stuff that is not as "thick."  What is your long term experience on these validators after you lube them with 3 in 1?  Does the gunk stick to over a period of time?

First time I used it was a few years ago and no problems so far. The key to it is amount, a little dab will do ya.

Cool, good to know.  I have a validator I need to lube.  I will go get the stuff and try it this weekend.

Here's a comparison of a validator that is as is from a casino, and then one after it was lubed.

Thanks for the mp3's on the validator. Mine seems to be a much louder and more lengthy grinding noise.
I am going to try to lube it "slightly" this weekend. Your lubed mp3 idoes sound MUCH better..
Thanks to EVERYONE who responded to my post. I am a complete "newbie" to slot machines and

We've used food grade silicone in the past with awesome results.   Comes in aerosol, like WD40...

3-in-1 is the way to fly.

Thanks,

Imagine this I'm going to disagree with everyone ( I luv to disagree, especially when I'm right )

Dirt/dust or what ever will stick to any petroleum product you use.  Powered graphite is the answerer !!

I disagree, graphite gets everywhere and I haven't ever seen it used in this type of application

Rob  Who do you think your bull shitting, like OIL stays exactly where you place it !!  Have you tried graphite ??  Don't knock it if you haven't tried it !! The proof is in the pudding.

Wonder why when I buy tubes of grease to grease my truck I pay extra for the black grease that has graphite in it ??

I ask you this, what does a locksmith use to lubricate a lock  ?? ( it ain't motor oil ) Why does he use what he uses ?? Oh shit it gets all over the key doesn't it !! No worry a little soap and water and it will wash right off and if you do get some graphite on your hands your pecker won't fall off.

I see someone put up a survey, I would venture to say that 75% of our members have never see or used powered graphite so to me the vote means nothing  some dumb shit votes for something he doesn't know anything about, Obama got elected twice didn't he. Someone must have voted for him. Last election I wrote in Goldwater's name

Buzz, I use graphite for a lot of things, just not around electronics. It probably works great, but so does what I use so that's what I recommend
