Title: The last machine arrived at home, Bally 873 5-line, now clean & repair it.
Post by: Nurbo on July 28, 2015, 08:55:25 AM
Hello,

After having bought the Bally 809 Multiplier to a friend, I looked to what had been done in the Bally electromechanical machines, and inevitably the classic pair is 809 and the ... ... ..the ...... ..873 !! !

The 809 Multiplier, as its name suggests, can multiply gains and is called a 5 credits machine. So you can play 1 to 5 coins, and each time it multiplies the gain.

The 873 is also a 5 credits one, but it is a 5-line. You can play 1 to 5 coins, or 1 coin per line.

Below the 873 which is on the left is for me, and the 809 which is on the right is going to go back to the North of France for a friend.

I owe this discovery to Mr Zpeakabonk, a big thank you to him !!!

As announced at the time of the sale, it is in its "own juice". It operates in 110 V, but has the hopper, mechanical coin and the wiring seems whole and it did not seem to have been cannibalized. Small feature, it comes straight from Japan !

The glass are in fairly good condition, there is a small scratch in the lower right, but I should succeed in recovering it. Which suffered the most during those years, it was the chrome. We will see what will be possible to get back with Belgom Chrome.

I'm pretty happy to have met this couple 809 / 873, even if it is far from being clean and functional, I will see the extent of the work to be done when I really put my hands in it.

Let's go, photo shoot, I have left in the original size so that the specialists give me their opinion on possible "anomalies", though I've already identified a few, just by taking photos.

We can see the scratch on the lower right, but luckily the glass was not affected. The topper is missing.

The top glass with the 3 Seven aligned payments, the Jackpot ($ 750) when you play 5 coins.

The middle glass and 5 lines represented, with the secondary payments on the right side.

The bottom glass with the scratch on the right. Visible also on the left, but less obvious.

The mechanics of the 3 reel. In the bottom left of the first reel and above the propeller, we can see a strand from 6 to 8 wire surrounded by electrical tape, here is a possible first change we'll have to check.

The reel launching mechanism. It does not make too much account, but there is a large quantity of grease everywhere.

What a miracle !,  I have a double keys reset !!!
By cons, 2nd anomaly. I noticed the little piece of paper that served of shim at the coil of the coin diverter. In this way, the coins are bound to the hopper, so it cannot be overfull ..., strange.... besides the bottom left contact switch no longer has its metal rod to count coins.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180471_TH.jpg&hash=dae8d067fc7168180d6126de3a9f15224813c7e2) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180471.JPG)

Well, not very young this 873. It was born in October 24, 1973.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180472_TH.jpg&hash=119005cbf7df2bf3aed323a6e2dac1153f0bd139) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180472.JPG)

The bottom of the box behind the hopper is relatively clean, and there is no apparent trace of big changes.

Hello,

For those who would not have already guessed, I'm in France, with a mains voltage of 220 volts. The machine has been sold to me to operate in 110 volt.

I  look over your Bally 809, because ultimately the two machines are close enough and the two transformers are 122-105.

I create another http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=6384.0 (http://post here

The selected solution was to preserve the 110 volt wiring and use a voltage converter 220 --> 110 volts.

So I took a 110 volt power, I changed the fuse and I prayed ...

Mamamia !!!!!!!!Once again there was light ! The general illumination works and no smoke or blown fuse.

By cons I did not want to put the reel or the hopper, there's a time when we have to take time and not rush. This restoration will be long, there is anyway little chance that the machine operates without a big revision.

This time I left the power on longer, I pressed the switch that has the coin, I can hear the sound but nothing happens with the lights that indicates how much coins are played.

So I removed the head where the counting relays are located, they are behind the top glass.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180498_TH.jpg&hash=87daf7aea000d764567b12b1d70c380dafc28d74) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180498.JPG)

Below I think that it is the basic system of counting. I feel that the bottom coil is operated at each coin.
At each coin, the ratchet wheel rotates in the direction of clockwise, and when the handle is actuated, the black coil (burned elsewhere I have to find the reference) releases the ratchet wheel. There is a cam extending from that coil to the springs but the reflection of the flash masks it.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180500_TH.jpg&hash=5b40c26da0dc1c1b09d662c30fe31a7cea945cde) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180500.JPG)

Nine coils should indicate payment for the number of coins played. I realize that on the photo they are 2 black coils, I must see if they are also burned.

Great pics.
You know, you can check each of those coils with just two jumper wires.  Connect one jumper to the orange (70) 50V wire, and the other jumper to the 30 (yellow) common wire, and touch each one to each side of your coil under test.  Actually, just clip the jumper onto a 70 wire on any coil, and then use the 30 wire to touch on the NON orange side of each coil you want to test.
Just because a coil is blackened does not mean it does not work.

Hello,

Well, that's it, I'm really working on the restoration of the  Bally 873.

It may take a lot of time before it is all beautiful like the Bally 809 of Chicki, but we will work on it !

Upon reflection, I will leave the machine in 110V, because with my first tests I think I have already burned ballasts neon and it is useless to persist needlessly.

For the rest of the restoration of this machine, I chose to carry my repairs on the "5 pay line feature unit".

It is this set which manages the number of coins played, triggering payment of the hopper, resets at the end of a party ... all managed by coil and switch and a ratchet wheel.

Below is the diagram of the coils correspondence.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2F5-line-pay-feature-unit.jpg&hash=9fee27cc9dc115496df02c9165898879c74eb1b3)

There are 2 things I do not understand the purpose / function, the BAR relay ???
Report to the BAR symbol ??? If so why on this symbol and not on the other ones ... ???

And what is the use of the S relay flasher coil , or rather what is the use of this little flasher lamp ?
Because it is situated behind the board with light bulbs, so I guess it should not be very visible ???

The front face that illuminates the upper glass symbolizing the lines played. According to the documentation, all the bulbs are # 44.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180624_TH.jpg&hash=145772b42e75debb50a2956c69dcc46fad23d741) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180624.JPG)

According to the visual aspect, it seems that the coils #11: Line unit Step-Up and #12 relay: Line unit reset relay are burned. The paper is black and brittle.
There are two coils G-31-1800.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180625_TH.jpg&hash=90154fa61abbeb0624dafcf47a3c317ea5b49c2e) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180625.JPG)

Looking at the assembly of the ratchet wheel, another coil is in the same condition, it is the # 32: Reset coil.
It is a C-28-1100 coil.
All these coils will have to be changed.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180629_TH.jpg&hash=c3c9048ccffe3a731726d39367463f3c65f59c5f) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180629.JPG)

There will be a lot of cleaning. All the wires are very dirty, I have doubt in the color of some of them. All metal parts are also in poor cosmetic condition.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180627_TH.jpg&hash=2c42345ca31262de63e4eebefc27420eb72931db) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180627.JPG)

The contact plate disc does not seem too damaged, and that's a good piece of news.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180628_TH.jpg&hash=36da8be8b4d159af09bbda489410bcef23db0ca2) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180628.JPG)

Now that I have finished taking pictures, I can start cleaning this 5-line pay feature unit !

Just because a coil looks blackened does not mean it is bad.
Again, you can easily test the coils with two jumper wires.
However, if you just want them to look nice, go ahead and replace them....
Line unit step up and line unit reset relay coils are the two most used coils in the machine.  That's probably why they look more used -- they are more used.

Hello OldReno

I have read your messages on the test coils and thank you for the tip !  :cool_thumb_up:

But I decided to put the steps by steps of this restoration “after making” the changes, burned coils are therefore already changed.

Hello,

Let's go for the big cleaning !

The wooden plate which supports the bulbs is held with 4 screws. The bulbs base are fixed "in force" on the board. The exterior lights are  a "general illumination" type, the middle ones lit on according to phases of the game.
We distinguish better the bulb and S flasher relay coil, I do not know the usefulness. The bulb is a # 455
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180644_TH.jpg&hash=6ce7b5527c7e22f7243fcae676e090c6f44d3f99) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180644.JPG)

Without the wooden plate, the 9 coils are a little more accessible.
The two burned coils are at the top right.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180645_TH.jpg&hash=d6b0a39aaa84f301ddaf7154876c02f683caf0ed) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180645.JPG)

To remove the coil from its holder, you just have to unscrew the screws from the bottom and slide.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180651_TH.jpg&hash=aecf9d13bdbc9a84b0d0bc59d39cc28b226bad95) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180651.JPG)

The magnetic plate above the coil that does not work any longer, because the coil is burned.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180652_TH.jpg&hash=20149a60f416d0bbdf2a6246c010485e51925488) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180652.JPG)

I started cleaning the wire, the left ones are clean, and the right ones are still dirty.
The connector supports are also removed to be cleaned, there are many oxidation.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180660_TH.jpg&hash=0e3e26fd596b29f0b6b956a0d8b973a394fe71f3) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180660.JPG)

The disassembly is continuing. The aim is to collect all the metal parts to clean them.
This will also allow me to better understand how the machine and the coils are wired.

Hello,

The coil support plate is finally emptied of all of its parts, after 40 years it really needs a good cleaning.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180693_TH.jpg&hash=632696fe5f5593bfb56e261763bdb9ca838f3670) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180693.JPG)

I have not scratched rust in depth, but the plate still found a second youth!
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180695_TH.jpg&hash=f61b46640f96f6c685952b3086b84cc867d5c964) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180695.JPG)

I disassembled the wiper assembly.
The wiper is struggling returning to its place. The spring may be involved, but I will first start by cleaning the contacts.

I use this product for cleaning, by soaking a piece of cardboard and passing between the two contacts.

Once disassembled the contacts are more accessible.

The contact plate.

The other side of the contact plate view. I guess the use of the wiring, but I'll try to understand how it works at the level of bets.

The contact plate is disassembled, nothing special but it helps to clean the 40 years of dust !
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180705_TH.jpg&hash=fa725e6e773c97dc66372ffa01e882c46127bd1e) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180705.JPG)

The switch that were situated at the ratchet wheel have been removed, it will be easier to clean them.
It is also necessary to remove these switch to output the ratchet wheel about its axis.

Hello,

Once the switch are removed, the ratchet wheel can be removed.
The spring does not raise any problem during disassembly, it makes only two laps around the axis and it is easy to recover it.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180709_TH.jpg&hash=e921d930a872565bb691cc11d1bc1c6fbd0a9906) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180709.JPG)

After all these years the ratchet wheel has become very dirty. The axis is half sticky, half fat, and a good cleaning / degreasing is required.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180710_TH.jpg&hash=4e73227a275f297d55024e3b3a43756ded1dc7bd) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180710.JPG)

Same thing for the axle holder. Rag + F gasoline = dry axle holder !

Again more great pictures.  This is another of those well documented break ALL THE WAY DOWN jobs.  As with the others, I would have a box of spare parts if I went this deep into my games.  As usual I eagerly await the video of the slot working.

I am actually inspired to know that there are members out there that have the confidence to problem solve at this level.  Seems like I will have to go into the head unit of me 873 Golden Nugget in the near future because of sluggish stepping from line to line.

Ra, lube the shaft of your white gear, and lube the wiper fingers and buttons on the disc.  That'll probably fix ya.
Couple of drops of light oil...

Nurbo, good job.
Just FYI, if you remove the TOP screw of your switch stack, that is enough to allow you to get your white toothed gear out of its place, without having to disassemble the switches.  Much easier to put back together, too.
ALthough I suspect you are wanting to do a complete teardown.  This is just info for the next time you take apart the odds disc and assy.

That's right, I realized it when raising the switch. And I confirm I am actually trying to disassemble everything to clean each part of the machine.

Thank you for the translation !
I had not found yet what meant that text, so I will pay attention when I will be reading the wiring diagram.

He did speak here in Reno Tuesday, it was wonderful.
I had to pass by a bunch of 'Hookers for Hillary' on the way in.

Hello Off-Track,

Thank you !

Yes I think you can help me. Could you tell me how many coins are won when you can see :

3 BAR = ???
3 « seven » on lines 1 to 4 = ???
3 « seven » on line 5 (Jackpot) = ???

On the payment glass I only have money amounts, but as  I do not know the denomination of the machine, I do not know how many coins are won.

I can't quite read your payout glass but it's a nickel machine 5 cents is one twentieth of a dollar it takes 20 of them to make a dollar

I am guessing from the payout it is a 25 cent machine 25 times 4 equals $1 so $50 would be 200 coins line 5 would be jackpot lockup

and $25 on three bars would be 100 coins

The spring before cleaning. Dirt tracks and steel have become "rough" with past years.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180713_TH.jpg&hash=c50b9abbec9560626879fd95f9467683ee7fe570) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180713.JPG)

After cleaning.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180714_TH.jpg&hash=b63e99c2f3e5a804fb65aff21f9d2c9a88ca9f03) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180714.JPG)

I rebuild the entire assembly, ratchet wheel + switch (which were cleaned too).
And the tests are successful, the wiper comes up perfectly and instantly in its position.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180715_TH.jpg&hash=35ff945f5a0ef0c107deaf225c78a54bb721616d) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180715.JPG)

After the big cleaning, it is the big reassembling.
It's all over with this counting unit, except for three coils that I still have to change.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180747_TH.jpg&hash=67569868a22c0088c166e5ad94212f47806de7cf) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180747.JPG)

For the next stage of rehabilitation of the Bally 873, I worked on the top glass and its chrome. As you can see, the glass is as dirty as chrome.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180725_TH.jpg&hash=38f99acbb7fc39fe2d791d6985aca825e082fa90) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180725.JPG)

On the other side of the glass it is not better, heat bulbs and years have made the glass dirty.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180720_TH.jpg&hash=27a6970178b82fe5cf0dffd42f41b6d735e6e758) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180720.JPG)

Now it is removed from its holder, the glass can be cleaned easily.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180731_TH.jpg&hash=c3efab1d53da41001cebe24f4367053e6757a8ac) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180731.JPG)

The same glass after cleaning. It is in very good condition except with two or three scratches.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180732_TH.jpg&hash=efd70a1a4cd96fd3c4349eb17e8a4df33b64e738) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180732.JPG)

The set is ready for long years of service !
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180750_TH.jpg&hash=3d123bfb27620935afcc3d196b8639d98871df16) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180750.JPG)

Next step, the candle above the machine.

Bye !

3 BAR = ???

3 « seven » on line 5 (Jackpot) = ???

On the payment glass I only have money amounts, but as  I do not know the denomination of the machine, I do not know how many coins are won.

I didn't even notice that the denomination circle in the lower center of each pay-line glass panel was missing!   :Scratch-Head:   But, yes,  yours is $.25 per line.  Three bars = 100 coins, three 7's on 1-4 are 200 coins and three 7's on line five = lockout (reset button inside on lower left rear).

I'm not sure but, I think you could print a transparency replica of the denomination label to paste on the backside of the glass?  I would have to remove the illumination behind that area to really tell.  If you get it up and running the red on each side has "coin accepted/insert coins" play lamps.

Before you consider the upper glass finished, hold it up to a light source.  It looks like there are some abrasions (dark smudges) that mine also had.  In my case those were areas where the black masking was abraded allowing the back lighting to leak through.  I used a paint pen to re-black the areas.  You need to do it on a light table (or other source) to make sure you completely fill in the missing masking.

Next step, the candle above the machine.

Do you have extra parts in a box somewhere?  I noticed that neither of your machines had candles (and I don't either) so I was wondering about that myself.

Bally originally made the award glass in $ amounts, and then later on changed to coins.
As you can guess, having awards in coin amounts made it a lot easier to convert machines from nickels to quarters to dimes or whatever.
You didn't have to buy an extra glass when you changed denoms.  A lot of casinos tried to customize their floor plan by denom change to maximize their play.

I finally made a Bally sign in place of the denomination circle in the lower center of the glass panel.

Hehe, yes, there is really a candle, and it’s visible on the first picture of this post.

Hello,

Here is the candle. This is one of the most damaged metal parts on this machine !
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180784_TH.jpg&hash=7dff2500e8d6e7f30e4d18c861aaa47763b0ddef) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180784.JPG)

This is only an assemblage of few metal sheet !
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180753_TH.jpg&hash=8116e18412a1cc1871249f90e6d1880d71fa4714) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180753.JPG)

The support plate which is fixed to the machine is deformed. And according to the visual aspect of the wood in the fixing screws, I guess that the candle was blown off and not unscrewed from the holder ...
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180786_TH.jpg&hash=b0eed49266e725765147a75a79105df8486bbf72) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180786.JPG)

This is not very visible in the photo, but all parts are cleaned with Belgom Chrome.
I also straightened the support plate (bottom right of the photo).
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180789_TH.jpg&hash=b5a364ab50143203bdb1bbf00a7323b5fb3f8f5f) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180789.JPG)

Once rebuilt. The difference after the cleaning is not fantastic, but at least it's clean.

You did a great job cleaning and straightening the metal parts. Many years ago on the the old forum there were several members who had the plastic top for your candle.  I am sure that they are still out there.  In your case you the appropriate color for your candle cap would be yellow.

Keep up the good work!

Hello,

Until now it was quite easy, some Belgom Chrome, a little soap, nothing very complicated, and there was no mechanism (except on the counting wheel).
The next step is the cleaning and checking of all the reel assembly.
This whole mechanism is its juice for years ... ditto for reel strip, that are very dirty.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180751_TH.jpg&hash=41846dfbd3889a898b4f3752e12c23964f41faec) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180751.JPG)

We can see very well all the grease on the stop index reel.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180481_TH.jpg&hash=137c03ed23a37752cac6fa7794c78b9182f5fbd1) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180481.JPG)

We start with the reel out of their support.
We can also see clearly how the bands are dirty, I did a test on the middle band, dirt seems to be removed easily.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180807_TH.jpg&hash=d9a1bddf5b75866665f68451ed6835c802a2f743) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180807.JPG)

All the reels are held on the shaft via some E-ring.
Two screws fixing the reel on the bearing hub are missing, but I found these screws in the box at the bottom of the machine.

Each reel is between 2 E-ring.

The disk with the notches is called the "stop index reel", and thanks to this disc the machine knows what symbol is displayed. It is fixed to the bearing hub via 4 screws.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180811_TH.jpg&hash=dfcc9e7ffe80a3d087bd10019e40258cdd405316) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180811.JPG)

Once the disc is located relative to the bearing hub, the 4 screws are removed. The bearing hub has two needle bearings. There is a small mixture of grease and oil, it will need a F-gasoline bath for refurbishing.

First fast cleaning with a rag. I removed the label to give it later, after all it dates from 1973 so as to keep it !
At last we can see the reference of the drive is a 684-8.

Great pictures!  That cleaning stuff you use is magic.  What are you going to use to lubricate the needle bearings?

If you look on the bearing hub, you will notice a little hole.  this is for you to oil the needle bearings when you do intermittent lubes.  also you may have a set screw on the hub, (another hole) which is a sort of clutch.  However it is not important that it is there.

Hello,

I use the multi-purpose oil. It is very liquid.
I put only one small drop in the needle bearings.

Hello,

Finally I soak the disc into gasoline F to dissolve the entire grease.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180821_TH.jpg&hash=61c31c8ded25ce40dded3ad756a760733bb27bb1) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180821.JPG)

The bearing hub will also soak in a pot filled with gasoline F.

The reels are also cleaned fully. Before ...

Here it is, all is clean. The 3 rollers, bearings hub, stop reel index, the screws. The last thing I have to do is to clean the reel strips.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180841_TH.jpg&hash=bc7e1df1f9a07ba3886fb2d06337e9c0e8fa00a6) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180841.JPG)

To clean the strips I do a test with a paper towel dampened with any window cleaning liquid. Anyway I did not have much to lose given the state. But finally no problem, they are washable unlike some strips on modern machines like S2000 for example.

Hello,

Last week I received the defective coils.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180971_TH.jpg&hash=b9f021f308fdae1cc572d7a77c384452268d4bda) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180971.JPG)

To change the coils it is not very complicated, there is just the screw below to unscrew.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180973_TH.jpg&hash=6c5b808f936d78c57724883e57737fe761995d3c) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180973.JPG)

After identifying the connections, I can desolder the coil.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180974_TH.jpg&hash=54de40048edb01c9a31f83cfb785767a98b5b921) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180974.JPG)

Both coils (G-31-1800 type) are now changed. They were kind solenoid coils.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180976_TH.jpg&hash=d6a4edc40a95d0d2fa7d0defc525c53c50f10b79) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180976.JPG)

Here is the « reset » coil, it is a C28-1100.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180978_TH.jpg&hash=12857fcb7842742261428247b2aa2e29dd339c2a) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180978.JPG)

Once the defective coil removed, we can see that the sleeve is made of aluminum, not plastic like the newest pinball.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180979_TH.jpg&hash=4877a891728bfc7ffe02633d8c64125d971dda77) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180979.JPG)

The new coil is set up.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180980_TH.jpg&hash=b6a7cfc12ab9c45a9bc95883b9f3f7f90ca68fdb) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180980.JPG)

And here are the 3 coil Out of order.
Regarding the right one there is no doubt, according to the insideof  the plastic state that is distorted.
With both on the left, OldReno told me how to test them, because sometimes the coils are black, but they are still working.

A note on needle bearings...it certainly cannot hurt at all to put a little bit of light grease on the bearings before you install the hub back onto the shaft.  You can use either a small brush or a Q-tip to mooosh it around.  I think it helps keep the oil in place, and you will find it helps dampen the sound of the bearings...
Thank you.

Hello OldReno,

Thank you for the tip, :cool_thumb_up:

I'll try. It is true that the bearings are a bit noisy.

Maybe it's because I've put only a little bit of oil.

Hello,

All the mechanics of the reels assembly is now cleaned, dried and ready for use.
I will have to oil and grease the moving parts before the final restart, but I will do it later so that I will avoid having grease or oil during adjustments and manipulations.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180986_TH.jpg&hash=eb6bcd52ce8bb3be5978e610df4285e6847714e7) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180986.JPG)

I will also try to restore the two counters at the bottom left. Keep in mind that the wire are cut and insulated with electrical tape.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180987_TH.jpg&hash=d6f512032eb809bdfb10b2f2f3a40926beeab0aa) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180987.JPG)

I still have to clean the 3 coils switch at right of the reels assembly. These switches are all marked BAR. I still have to know precisely the utility and operation of these switches.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190001_TH.jpg&hash=05e773dfa3faec15f4dc0f9c801f1c23eadbfd2c) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190001.JPG)

All the switches have been cleaned. These are well known to lovers of Bally slot machine. There is a lot of failure due to these switches because they control the first phase of play. (https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180997_TH.jpg&hash=d15485639348217dac99dda8171e77f0f2ad7a9b) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180997.JPG)

The wires have been welded. I'll leave it like this but I will add plastic wire end cable.

Hello,

So far I had not had any particular difficulties during the restoration of this machine.

This time it may be more difficult with the hopper. It receives inserted coins, it proceeds to the distribution of a gain, but it also serves to put the machine in standby position, ready to play with the payout relay.

After hours to clean and rehabilitate these units, I could not resist ,and I plugged the machine ...... no better than the first time. Just the line one lighted on the top glass and reel glass.

But this time I take my little electric shock ... so, I stop testing at that time.

But in fact, what is a hopper ?

On the right we can find the scoop assembly  that contains coins or tokens. On the left,  behind the plate, we can find the counting unit, and behind the scoop assembly at right, the reduction motor.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190010_TH.jpg&hash=c6c5048471a3fe310347b17cfbc749a6fd4c0974) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190010.JPG)

Below, the arm with the ball serve as a level sensor coins, the more coins, the more the arm rises, until it actuates a switch which will deflect the coins under the machine (in casinos ).

The disc with the spikes has a specific diameter  wich depends on the coins used. The smaller is the coin, the larger will be the disk, and conversely, the larger is the coin, the smaller will be the disc. The coins come to rest on this disc, we can besides clearly distinguishe the  shape of coins, and the little pins  push the coins to the exit.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190016_TH.jpg&hash=f0e80680eb9a5673a25e7935de1b1fb83b0ec500) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190016.JPG)

On the other side, we can find the contact plate with wiper.
It is this set that will count in the hopper and distribute the number of coins won.
I did not notice immediately "defects" of this part of the hopper.

Top circled in red, there is a track that is missing on 1 cm, but from what I understand, there is no contact who will spend it, and a simple strap can fix it.
There was also a problem with the zero switch circled in blue. During my tests it was in the closed position, while its basic position (pending token) is opened.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190011_TH.jpg&hash=d9f4adec54905c69c11d5c7b4d837e71b8de3c21) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190011.JPG)

The lower blades are shifted. The reason is simple, a fixing screw is missing. I'm me insight by analyzing the operation of the hopper.
In short, there was no chance that the machine starts token standby position.

Hello,

Another broken down that I had not seen right away, there was a leg of the capacitor that was unsoldered.

The wire from left has really suffered ...

Once removed, we can see the trace of burns.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190076_TH.jpg&hash=3016b0c95492817d0941864334e94bd2c56c480a) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190076.JPG)

There have also been other damage to the wire of this switch. I will also have to change the capacitor, resistor and diode.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190082_TH.jpg&hash=9684f2af4f4f544aa9c339235e710cf13b2379e0) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190082.JPG)

That's where I stopped on the hopper.
A coil to change,  redo a track, with the capacitor assembly to control.
Next step, check the output coins and adapt it if necessary.

Hello,

The new task on this machine is to switch it to € 0.20 coins. When I had it, it was delivered with thirty chips, so not enough to have fun with it.

Whether the disc of the hopper or the knife, both are for 25 cents US.

First thing to do, but I did not take any photo, is to modify the mechanical coin.

Let's start on the hopper.

The tokens arrive on the disc from the right. For the tokens to be able to pass, the # 1 plate must retract, it is operated via a coil.
Then the token continues its path to be counted via the pulleys # 2, it is also operated by a coil.
The token passes over the knife # 3 and along the plate # 4 which leads to the tray where the tokens are taken back
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190023_TH.jpg&hash=7f4885d92508b0258b662c00d27fbd7a263e6256) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190023.JPG)

Here is another view of the plate # 1. When paying, it rotates clockwise on its axis (blue arrow).
It is possible to do without this plate, it was only used in casinos to avoid one or two coins to be paid in addition to the inertia of the disc
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190022_TH.jpg&hash=22d624c365341bd4dfd595628109c8a18ee9f557) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190022.JPG)

When paying, the coil is activated, the metal rod enters the coil which make the plate rotate. To test them, I maintain the coil in a state "on", the plate returns and allows the passage of coins.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190014_TH.jpg&hash=99b8260c77177f1d11957f6ce4d173480cb473c3) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190014.JPG)

The coins arrive on the knife #3, then under the counting pulley #2.

However, there is a problem with the plate # 4, it looks "too thick" and coins abut above (red arrow), which causes what is called a "hard point", potentially harmful for the duration of hopper lifer (gears + motor).
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190033_TH.jpg&hash=b6ac50d52bdad10da8d22b3b87fe31b78b82f109) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190033.JPG)

I checked and the plate matches the Bally nomenclature for 25 cents. I suppose that over the years, and transportation, mechanics has been shaken, and this part of the hopper may have been distorted.
The repair will be easy, Dremel + abrasive disc. I go little by little, until the plate comes well flush to the disk. It's not too "destructive" for the machine and it works fine at lower costs!

Hi,

This is a great thread and I am following with interest. I am currently restoring a Bally 742 using a donor machine Bally 873. I too would like to convert to €0.20 but have found the mech very difficult to transform ?? I have a 2p and a UK 5p mech and the 5p is the newer one I am working on, if you have any update it would be very grateful.

Likewise I will add pictures of my progress. Great work.

Cheers

Hello,

Short break on the hooper while waiting for the B-25-925a coil that will have to be replaced.

I am now working on the door. There are many things to do , with first, cleaning the exterior chrome, cleaning the interior grime, cleaning the glass, examining the coils aspects, checking the lighting and especially fluorescent tubes.

For that, the easiest way is to remove the door. Very simple, each hinge is held by two nuts.

Hello,

Fluorescent tubes for Bally electromechanical slot machine are tubes of 288mm F8T5 / CW, 1 tube in the topper and two tubes behind the belly glass.

The small tube of the reel glass, is a F6T5/CW, 225 mm lenght.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190220_TH.jpg&hash=e85e51bc6a21e567f8df9401f168ae30dbb9bf19) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190220.JPG)

As often on this machines, the connector and more particularly  the pine that coresponds to the 6V lighting is often burnt. Just a plastic color change, no damage at this time.

Looking more closely at the lock coil, I realized that the small spring was gone. With little chance it will fall into the interstices of the door ... If I can not find it, I'll have to order one.

There is a lighting of the coin tray. I had never seen it before because the bulbs are grilled on both of my machines.
The light from the bulb passes through a small Plexiglas square. The bulbs are # 63.

Hello,

The cleaning of the door is going on.

This plate covers the exit of parts. The slit comes into contact the outlet of the hopper when the door is closed, and upon ejection, the pieces follow the path of the arrows.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190156_TH.jpg&hash=a839017a76f29384cc63152ebbf12fd7cf831da8) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190156.JPG)

The coin diverter with his dust..

After removing a dozen screws, half of the door components are disassembled. Finally it is much simpler than I thought. Everything is connected by electric harness.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190167_TH.jpg&hash=31a5d394e69540699d40b711a7623c197513e234) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190167.JPG)

The reel glass reflects years of nicotine and dust.

The chrome facade is removed. We can see the path that brings the coins to the coins mechanism and the system for the "return money" if coins are blocked.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190175_TH.jpg&hash=005f06edfd1b668835bf4d84fc144e59460d1699) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190175.JPG)

The chrome is removed from the bottom part and allows removal of the glass.

It also allows access to the support plate of the bottom of the tubes holder.

The window bottom is not made of glass but Plexiglas. I do not know if it's an original part or if it is a copy.

Plexi glass or glass, no matter, dirt is everywhere.

Hello,

The continuation of disassembly continued with the support plate of fluorescent tubes that illuminate the bottom of the door.

There was only one tube (left circuit where the starter is), I hope that the other one was dead and it was not the ballast that was out of order.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190198_TH.jpg&hash=8b70448877277ad6992baf9f6a6a50af0d28c021) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190198.JPG)

They might have removed the tube because the socket was broken, visible in the top left of the photo. There are also other socket that are broken on this machine, they will have to be replaced.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190195_TH.jpg&hash=961b8439cf0859c9bc2ae0d39e6e48a98aae609f) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190195.JPG)

The door is now fully "naked", except the reel glass that I can not remove, it is stuck with the foam seal.

To remove the glass I flipped the door, took a hair dryer, and I heated the metal support of the glass while exerting pressure on the glass. After 30 seconds heating, the glass was peeled off without damage ... ...

Both sides of the glass were cleaned with glass cleaner. The exterior has been cleaned with petrol to remove traces of fat and glue.

Keep up the excellent posts Nurbo!  It's been quite a while.  :cool_thumb_up:

As with your other glass I see some areas where the black mask is scraped away.  Seeing as you're going this far into a complete restoration I'd suggest you look at touching those up?

The glass isn't nearly as bad as those commonly seen on pinball back glasses but you might want to check out some threads like this?

Hello,

As a matter of fact, the glass has got a few scratches.

Thank you for the link, I am going to read what they say on the glass trstoration.

I do not know if I'll do it, because I'm a better handyman, than painting artist !

I have the same 5 line 873.  I just used a black Testors paint pen to fill in the scratches and you really can't see the touch up unless you know it's there.  If you back-light the glass (so you can see where light is coming through) it makes it much easier to fill in the chips completely without over-painting the good parts.

Hello,

Here am I with the door completely stripped of its parts. There is only the metal left.

Let’s go with the long job of cleaning, where we have to go into every corner.

I used Belgom Chrome because I had no special aluminum product, but the purpose was to give it a bit of cleanliness, and especially remove dirt, dust and nicotine. I have not even spent felt polishing wheel, I just wiped the cloth.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190214_TH.jpg&hash=8930600470dea7577aaa99a1c0aafd258f557659) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190214.JPG)

The BEFORE – AFTER state is not obvious, but regards to the rag color, it was much needed!

The fully cleaned door except the 2 side parts in chrome. The photo does not show a really difference before it was clean.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190249_TH.jpg&hash=954a9e2b8c6aad067e1490ce467bebb751c74ed0) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190249.JPG)

Just a small interlude in the hopper before starting again the cleaning of the door. There is a simple check to do to eliminate a large part of short-circuit problems in the hopper.

We use a multimeter that we put in position sound continuity, connecting a wire to the chassis of the hopper, and the other wire we are touching  every switch of the slices. The meter should never ring. (Thanks OldReno for the tips !)
Well I had this  case with the "Reset switch", it was an uninsulated metal screw that served as a stop.

(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190233_TH.jpg&hash=b8f7fd615d1676d94fc7d829bc70fc2a05391214) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190233.JPG)

To remedy this, I just needed a small piece of heat shrink tubing. I still have to look after it to make sure that there is not too much friction and wear on the heat shrink tubing.

Okay, I'll try to find this kind of pen tester  :cool_thumb_up:

Sorry, I probably should have been clearer?  Testors is a brand of enamel paint available in the states.  The most common usage is for scale model work and fine detail uses.  I would just post an example link but for some reason the Amazon listing picture is blank?  Google "testors paint pen black" and you'll see what I'm referring to.

Hello,

Oulala since how long I have posted nothing on the forum !!!  :hail:

Go, it left again for the rest of this restoration !

I still had a few parts to clean except the door.

Below the coin slide that brings the coins from the coin entry to the coin mechanism.

The part is separated into two, that allows to scrape the oxidation that could slow or block coins.

Then there is the push button (bottom left) that is used to call the attendant. When pressed, a lamp of the candle lights.

Hello,

I still have to clean the last chrome: the side panels of the door, the coin cup and the frame of the glass rollers. With a lot of dirt, it is difficult to realize the condition of chrome below.

Here are the images... performed without cheating!

Fantastic results!  Much better than other products I have seen used.  When I was in Cannes for the film festival several years ago I bought some stuff called Maas.  EXCELLENT for jewelry and such but I never tried it on chrome.  Since I moved I have to find it again.

Keep up the good work.  We will be watching.  Due to space restrictions I think that my collection is complete.  Unless I find a Bally Las Vegas.  Then I might have to get rid of the wife to make room.  LOL.

Hello,

I do not know the product you're talking about, but there's so much ...

With the Belgom it works, but the chrome must not be attacked deeply, it does not fill the holes!

Hahaha, keep your wife, it is surely she who cooks  :fryingpan:

Hello,

Disassembly / cleaning all components of the door being over, let’s  go for the refitting.

Here is the door harness that we will have to put in place. Nothing complicated, just have to do the reverse operation by possibly using photos taken during disassembly.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190381_TH.jpg&hash=25352f863d5ab259fcb7da855c4dc46f9d73da30) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190381.JPG)

The ramp switch has been changed.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190379_TH.jpg&hash=1739e562b5f4ce362de48343ac663dc2be1c2438) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190379.JPG)

I have to change fluorescent tubes and socket.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190383_TH.jpg&hash=20430e10ec95a30a232354d9f9cbe6acfd631d2a) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190383.JPG)

The glass is positioned on its support with the metal frame that surrounds it.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190384_TH.jpg&hash=2f99508d160d2ff06112491e0f777d9e6ed46f2a) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190384.JPG)

The white plate is kept in the door with only  two small screws. The two ballasts and two starters are on the other side.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190385_TH.jpg&hash=5107685a6e806ab12d5fc5ac7cc44f63c3194e4c) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190385.JPG)

The assembly is installed on the door.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190388_TH.jpg&hash=625d9fe578feb0f0bae42c25d5597072059ea238) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190388.JPG)

I handed over the rod system that opens the coin mechanism when a coin is jammed. The window reel is just put, it is maintained with chrome frame.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190392_TH.jpg&hash=79147da4b5cd5cf2e136a9f85e8bcb04a7f9b188) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190392.JPG)

All the harness and the door parts are reassembling. The bulbs have also been changed, I only miss the fluorescent tube reel. Here, it's over regarding the door, I am now going to work on the cabinet. The door is set aside in a safe place.

Your work is progressing very well.  I LOVE the pictures and detailed narratives.

I would humbly suggest, when possible, you might want to consider replacing the existing incandescent light bulbs with comparable LED bulbs.  I changed ALL of the bulbs that I was able to in my EM games.  What a difference! Brighter, cooler operation, NEVER had a single light burn out in 3 years since they have been installed,  gives the old games a fresh look.

Bad part is that they can be expensive unless you buy in bulk but in my humble opinion WELL worth it.

My advice is free and worth every penny. :24:

Hi Ra,

I know this solution exists, I had discovered it on the S2000.

But it's like pinball, I prefer to leave them "original" as much as possible.

Hello,

The cabinet also needed a few good cleaning. Whether the outer veneer or 3 internal compartments, everything is relatively dirty, but nothing is damaged.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190397_TH.jpg&hash=d7a0a26b8c4b58364ecfcb4b3caa7f5e66e08407) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190397.JPG)

The top compartment, in which is set the counting unit. Just a little vacuuming and cloth.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190398_TH.jpg&hash=da8b74b63d5f279bd7c3bca984f08df6681b8707) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190398.JPG)

The middle compartment, where the reel assembly is made. With time and with the different lubrication that mechanics received, made that this oil and grease fell on the tray.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190399_TH.jpg&hash=2700dfe6678849434c8bc633d46f95ec9693361a) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190399.JPG)

The lower compartment receives the hopper and all the dust falls. Not fat but a lot of dirt.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190400_TH.jpg&hash=bf1c35ac6058d36b9b400ce5731f118c46135a2d) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190400.JPG)

This switch is operated via the lock and key reset that is on the right side of the machine.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190402_TH.jpg&hash=d241ae6a997bee820647ca989f6de5645db5c30a) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190402.JPG)

In the foreground is the coin chute that will bring the coins into the bottom box. They are directed there  when the hopper is full.
On the left we see a plate, and there should be a counter that counts the deflected coins in the cash down.
On the right the door we can see the interlock switch. It cuts the meters but still allows for testing.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190403_TH.jpg&hash=ce1500db822664dbfaa5201cf8f847951273a49e) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190403.JPG)

The cut wires connected to brown / yellow wire are those of the counter of the cash box.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190407_TH.jpg&hash=552ee753ee4991d8ade3cb84d0d769f2e988f1bf) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190407.JPG)

The 122-105 transformer was removed to wire into 220 volt. Some strap need to be done again and it's easier when outside the machine.

The angled aluminum rod is used to press the reset button on the safety timer. There is normally the hopper which is before the button, the casinos had found this solution to save time and handling because a hopper full of coins is very heavy !
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190410_TH.jpg&hash=b1b8a5b9bfa0b1ea693cd70d9afab65fcc57fb5e) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190410.JPG)

The compartment that receives the reel assembly. Top left there are two ballasts. One for the topper and one for the tube above the reel in the door.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190421_TH.jpg&hash=fa20ae78316b9e819f762b0e5cdd60288696ab60) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190421.JPG)

Hello,

The counting unit compartment. Top left : the connecting with tube topper. In the middle :  the two connectors of the counting unit, and on the right : the connection to the candle.

Dismounting of topper support. To change the fluorescent tube F8T5 / CW we have to unscrew 4 screws at the corners.

The tube is confined in this small space, wich makes tube supports very hot and the plastic has become brittle with time.

Hello,

In the meantime I printed and laminated a Bally badge to put in place of the name insert.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190441_TH.jpg&hash=1745991a6beebc57590aa823720a504470d31e75) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190441.JPG)

I also repaired  the track with a strap. There were already signs of a previous repair.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190445_TH.jpg&hash=983598c1bc0198891911a3a7edb48b6ba1786806) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190445.JPG)

I still had one last part to clean ... the arm. It's still a fairly rusty element because it is in contact with the skin and therefore sweating

To disassemble, the long bolt needs to be unscrewed that helds  the actuating fork arm.

Hello,

My order arrived :
-   B25-925 : hopper step-up coil
-   FE-33-2600 : coin diverter coil
-   M-37-2700 : coin lock-out coil

I ordered the SP-199-15 spring for the coin diverter. Added to this, two bulbs #455 flasher for candle and a forty bulb #44  not to put only new in the counting unit.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190503_TH.jpg&hash=0676316b85c7ba16e7b3c17174a5cfce77a67ec2) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190503.JPG)

For the coin lock-out, that was the spring that was missing. The new one, with a different reference, works perfectly.

Hello,

Review of the restoration of this machine.

Theoretically, with the order of the  spare parts , I had got everything to be able to restart the machine, except the override coil, but I could do without it.

I spent long days to test the machine. The machine still does not work.

I blown at least 30 fuses on the 50 volt line. I de-soldering all coils and the  fuse still burns ... I finally found where it came from. :duh:

The worst is that I had before my eyes with  the 7th picture of my post, but I had not paid attention because it seemed to be ok with the machine ... and what shows this 7th picture ???

(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180467_TH.jpg&hash=b4510cc919217056ee138255ef57a84dc2ece7e2) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180467.JPG)

It is a hopper ... but with a 929-1 number written on it ... and what is my machine ??? ? It's a 873 ... .so it can not work ... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

The 929 is a Bally Continental.

(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FBally-Continental-929-1.jpg&hash=3fd63da49a0508fcbbeb702a5dd60e6b01774492)

So I'm waiting for a solution ...

I have a quarter EM machine Bally's from the 60's and the coins just drop through to the cup inside, they don't activate the machine for play.

In the meantime I printed and laminated a Bally badge to put in place of the name insert.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1190441_TH.jpg&hash=1745991a6beebc57590aa823720a504470d31e75) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1190441.JPG)

Actually, that shouldn't be a Bally sticker.  It should show the denomination of the machine.  In your case it would be "25" based on the payback shown on the glass.

Hello,

I put the hopper problem on hold  and I kept on the aesthetic aspect.

I repaired the topper bracket and ordered fluorescent tube brackets in order to replace the broken bracket.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FDSCN6000_TH.jpg&hash=fa73f70b1cdbbb4dfa733f73adacb3be00e3aabb) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/DSCN6000.JPG)

I also changed the connector terminals, as well as one of the wires that had become brittle with the hours passed under the fluorescent tube.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FDSCN6004_TH.jpg&hash=7e1c82df846c763bd11c255d93efdde81843c4c7) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/DSCN6004.JPG)

On the other side, the connection terminals have also been changed because they have become brittle, but the tube support was still perfect  without any cracks, so I have not changed it.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FDSCN6005_TH.jpg&hash=9ff84e8ffecfc58e0693de1dd865d45014d034fb) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/DSCN6005.JPG)

The assembly is ready to be reassembled in the brushed steel support.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FDSCN6030_TH.jpg&hash=abcc4aedbdebd591f5ce594333ddc2c099643712) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/DSCN6030.JPG)

The plate with the tube is held with 4 screws. The threaded rods will serve to hold the support.

In rereading the post, I have just realized that I had not even posted an overall picture of the machine. It's done !

Hello,

I had a few small jobs to do on this door, I removed it from the machine because it is easier to work.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FDSCN7336_TH.jpg&hash=239f460e2e98867cac504e9d316a05606b8be0f6) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/DSCN7336.JPG)

I had to replace one of the ballast situated in the door. It was electrically powering one of the fluorescent tubes of the lower part of the door.

This ballast had been removed during the complete restoration of the machine and I had not restored it. Except that I need the fixing screws ...
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FDSCN7337_TH.jpg&hash=007f2278429a624eeea62a0ac8c12c28d5d7e7e9) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/DSCN7337.JPG)

And here I thank myself, I am searching  the box where I put all the parts coming from this 873, including those of the hopper, and what am I finding ?... the small bag with the screws of the ballast ...
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FDSCN7338_TH.jpg&hash=1ead426cdecc656c658085d0c2ab4687f5fd6647) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/DSCN7338.JPG)

The new ballast set up
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FDSCN7345_TH.jpg&hash=cc78ad5fdef30fc95ef96873cc7dfd8875ea4be4) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/DSCN7345.JPG)

It is then necessary to disassemble the support plate of the window at the bottom of the door, which gives access to the wiring terminals of the fluorescent tubes.

During disassembly, I had spotted each wire with tape and a number that corresponds to the position on the terminal block.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FDSCN7339_TH.jpg&hash=a9ffb5d53c70a1eb12d375cc1776f8974fda2a2f) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/DSCN7339.JPG)

No picture of the assembly but it is visible at this link  in the post because this subject has already been discussed. (http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=7510.msg84342#msg84342)

(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FBally-873-809.jpg&hash=4a49382e98f0abcb6fd8990350386bd6a04e125c) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/Bally-873-809.jpg)

The mechanics of the 3 reel. In the bottom left of the first reel and above the propeller, we can see a strand from 6 to 8 wire surrounded by electrical tape, here is a possible first change we'll have to check.

What a miracle !,  I have a double keys reset !!!
By cons, 2nd anomaly. I noticed the little piece of paper that served of shim at the coil of the coin diverter. In this way, the coins are bound to the hopper, so it cannot be overfull ..., strange.... besides the bottom left contact switch no longer has its metal rod to count coins.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180471_TH.jpg&hash=dae8d067fc7168180d6126de3a9f15224813c7e2) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180471.JPG)

Well, not very young this 873. It was born in October 24, 1973.
(https://newlifegames.com/nlg/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.subaudio.org%2Fflipjuke%2FMAS%2FP1180472_TH.jpg&hash=119005cbf7df2bf3aed323a6e2dac1153f0bd139) (http://www.subaudio.org/flipjuke/MAS/P1180472.JPG)
