Title: New Project wondering if anyone could help with a Bally 1081-16H
Post by: Longoverdue on June 23, 2017, 06:31:19 PM
I am taking on a new project. I bought a project, a Bally 1081-16H I know that a 1081-6H is the Medalist a 5 reel. However this is a 3 coin 3 reel. I haven't found much info. on this one as of yet. However is there another model that would have exchangeable parts. such as hopper, schematics etc.? It looks to be close to a 1090.
 Thank you.

Is that an "E" 1000 or an older EM?

the stamp says date 11/19/79   and  1081-16H  no electronics so must be EM I just got it 2 days ago, and it seems to be a lack of information that I have found.

Has a 70 pin Beau Plug on the hopper.

Hey.

I think it was one time a 1081. It looks to be custom made for Lady Luck Casino. The pay table is similar to a 1088 or a "Buy a Pay" machine.

Thanks  for your insight Richard. It has a funny coin Chute down the front. it must have had counter sunk coin trays also. Is a 70 pin Beau Plug unusual on a hopper? I dont recall seeing those before.

What you have is a Cabinet that once was a Metalist 5 reel machine, and was converted to the current machine.. The 70 pin beau plug and 1081-16H ID plate tell us that. If you found a schematic for the 1081-16H I don't think it would be helpful for your current machine. That machine use to sit on a stand that had it's own built in coin bowl.. You can tell that by the coin chute and lack of a coin bowl installed.. Those 70 pin beau plugs where used on machines like Monte Carlo and Metalist..

I see....said the blind man. And I thought rebuilding my Continental was a challenge! I don't think I will put to much effort into this one then .. Thanks for your input Amechanic.

Don't take me wrong. Your machine must have worked since it's refit. I'd start with the basics, clean and andjust the contacts. Then oil the reel linkages. Since that's an EM and not a E Series, you don't need electricity to test spin the reels. If your air cylinders not gummed up, then hold the lever sticking out of the handles gearbox on the top front. At that point you should be able to pull the handle and spin the reels.. That is if the reel linkages are not stuck due to lack of oiling.. They should spin and stop. I think you had a different  thread looking for a spiral cam? K-Lar was offering some EM Parts for sale about a month back. If you can't find one there, let me know because I know who should have one.

I did get the cylinder cleaned up and the wipers centered I am ATM trying to adjust the Drive Lever Assembly, because the center reel will not kick off . after getting the wiper contacts centered it releases 50% of the time. I just need a tad more. I think I may need to hunt down a few hopper parts. I believe the hopper is out of a "Medalist 1081-H6. I am thinking that is where it inherited the 70 pn Beau Plug. But just a guess atm. It will give me something to play around with..for a bit.
Thanks again for your response. I appreciate it.  Or would I tighten the "Drive Shaft a bit... Item #31..?

If you have reels 1&3 working, it's not that adjustment. You need to get all the pivot points on the reels cross shafts freed up. Those cross shafts should spin with the exception of the rear one just above the beau plugs. I even make sure that the spacers on the back shaft get oiled and freed up. You have a small cross shaft that has a latch paw that must be free to get the reels to kick. If they are sticky your reel will not kick. I use a light  light machine oil like 3 in 1 or a very light weight motor oil.
As for your hopper, if the cabinet has the matching 70 pin plug, my guess is that it's wired for that machine.

Make sure your 2nd reel wiper falls all the back when you kick off the reels.
If it hangs up, it wont kickoff.
A dry board will cause that, or too much tension on the wiper fingers.

Thank you for the tips! You were right. After re observing the hopper rods.. there were 2 0f them frozen in place. I have them nice and smooth now. Next..was the hopper..at first it seemed locked up.. as I rocked it back a forth it loosened a bit , but still tight as a frogs butt! I will diff. need a 3 1/4 cam spiral disk for a 1081 6H or 16H  and a 6 pt agitator. or the whole hopper! I will put a WTB in classified once I know total of parts.
Strangely ..when I hand turned the hopper..and then bench tested it.  it became solid-frozen...after separating the motor from the gear box...both work smooth. I am working on that mystery tonight.
Thanks again for your help.!

There are 4 screws that hold the hopper bowl to the hopper assembly. The one on the right side has an eccentric. If that eccentric puts too much pressure on the bowl it will cause the coin wheel to bind up on the bowl casting..  I like to bench test my hoppers without the bowl off, and again after I install it..
You might try contacting K-Lar at 702-363-9998 talk to Larry Weber. They have a EM tech that might be able to help get you your hopper parts when you have your list finished. The spiral cam is standard piece used on all Bally EM slot machines as are about 90% of the parts. One of the main differences are your cabinet size for the use of the wide reels like your game.. The 6 pt agitator can be found on Ebay, as possibly the spiral cam..

Just a bit of sad news. Larry at K-LAR passed away last year. His website is up for sale. Contact Allen (Badbaud on the forum for assistance).
