Title: AVP 4.0 Benchtesting
Post by: gamil on February 12, 2024, 04:39:04 PM
Hey all,

I just acquired this AVP 4.0 mainbox for dirt cheap. I was wondering if there's any way I could hook this up in a bench environment for testing? Maybe even play games on it?

I've been yearning to have some kind of Game King or AVP bench setup if anyone has insight on that. TIA.

"Dirt cheap" eh?
You might want to open the cover and take some good photos of what's in it.
Might just be a red brick in there... :rotfl:
Members here will be able to tell you if you got everything inside the brainbox.
From there, we will able to help you build your Frankenstein.  :cool_thumb_up:

Now i’m all for a frankenstein! Still waiting for it to come in, i will share
photos once it arrives.

However, you’re saying it’s possible? What all would be required? I know Gett has AVP 3.0 boxes for $150ish so i may consider that solution also since they are local.

You'll also need...>>>

1> a power distribution unit.
2> a power supply box.
3> a touchscreen monitor.
4> an LCD monitor or TV.
5> a USB board w/the ribbon cable.
6> a bill acceptor.
7> a printer and printer paper.
8> a button deck.
9> all the wiring harnesses for above devices.

You know....it would be easier to buy a machine... :rotfl:

It came in... I got it hooked up to an ATX power supply and this is where I'm at.  Have a VGA monitor hooked up with the error "Appropriate IGT PCIe device not found". Starting to think this isn't something that will be easy to pull off.

A machine is big and heavy - I don't have enough space for that right now :(

Having a hard time attaching photos. I keep getting an HTTP 500 error.

When you remove the top cover, the PCI card is the right-most card in the brainbox.
It will have two batteries on it.
The front part of it has a ribbon cable connector.
If there wasn't one in there, you got ripped off.

I got out my cellphone cam, and took a picture of a couple of mine for you to see.
The PCI card you should have gotten would have looked like one of these two.

A PCIe card for a 4.0 is near impossible to find. The two cards that Bunker posted are for 2.5 & 3.0 brain boxes and not compatible.
There is no ribbon cable in a Crystal Core machine. You might possibly find one in a rare late production G23 that came with a 4.0 box. They supposedly did exist but I have never been able to find one.

oh! He has the 4.0?  :duh:
Disregard the ones I posted!

When did the Ascents come out? 2014?

I see a ebay listing for what claims to be a PCIe card for the 4.0. Worth the send?

Lotta different boards out there all claiming to be 4.0 and priced out of this world.
This one doesn't have a ribbon cable.
Is this it?
