Hello everybody. I'm a new member from France, and I apologize for my bad english...
I have a problem with my new machine Denver Duck. It doen't start properly.
I have the message on the screen "IGT Reel Touch. Please wait a moment", the message "WELCOME" followed by a blue screen, and nothing more...
On the display under the reels, I have the message "WAITING FOR THE VIDEO DISPLAY".
I think it comes from hard drive programs. This disk has been tested after disassembly and connection to a computer and has no problem.
Reinstalling the software could solve the problem, but I have not a copy of this software...
If you can help me, I can answer additional questions.
Thank you :applause:

If your unit is a bios 1 (red white and blue finger on the top box when it starts) you ruined the harddrive when you hooked it to a computer.
What does the top box show when you turn the machine on?
:NLG_WELCOME:
If you have bios 2 green and yellow energy star you should still not try to view the harddrive with a computer.
Was the machine functioning before you hooked the harddrive to a computer ?
-
Remy,
The problem is in the top box either the harddrive or some other problem. Remember when doing any kind of component removal make sure the power is off.
We should be able to get you running again, just need answers to questions above.

-
Thank your for your answer.
When the machine starts, I have on the video display :
Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG, An Energy Star Ally
Copyright (C) 1984-99, Award Software, Inc.
Main Processor : PENTIUM III 1000MHz(133x7.5)
Memory Testing : 523264 OK + 1024K Shared Memory
At the bottom of the next screen, I have the message :
Updating ESCD ... Success
Building DMI Pool ... Success

OK based on your information you have a bios 2 Denver Duck.
Has it ever worked? When did it stop working.
It should continue with some light blue screens welcome etc. It should finally get to a blue screen with a black center that should say initializing.
This could take almost 10 minutes to get to initializing.
-
This machine came from a casino and it worked, but I’ve never seen it work at home.
The blue screen is empty, no message, even after 1 hour...
-
So it just gets to a light blue screen and goes no further?
That is a strange problem usually if the harddrive goes bad it won't go to the light blue screens.
If you open the top box and turn the machine on does the fan on the cpu heat sink run? Not the box fan on top, the smaller cpu fan on the heat sink.
-
Yes, the 2 fans run.
There are 2 red lights on the electronic board of the top box.
-
Two red lights are good.
What do the capacitors on that board look like?
Are any of them swollen on top? if possible post a picture.
-
Capacitors appear to be in good condition.
I attach a photo of the board.
Do you think reinstalling the software may solve the problem ?
-
The caps do look pretty good.
I don't know of any way to install the software other than by cloning a drive from a working unit and this must be done via a DOS based cloning program.
Any windows computer will corrupt the harddrive by leaving files that the game will balk at.
Years ago if you had the CDs you could put a blank HD in and then load the software from the CD to the harddrive but this was a slow problematic process.
You don't have the CDs do you?
-
No I don’t have the CDs with the original software
I hope to find a solution to restart this machine.
I think this machine has the best and fun bonus game between Reeltouch.
-
In my opinion Denver Duck is the best reel touch theme.
OK long shot it still seems to me that the top box is locking up. I noticed that the fan on the cpu heat sink is not original. Maybe the heat sink was not properly installed on the CPU chip or without thermal grease where the chip contacts the heat sink. Carefully remove the fan and unclip the heat sink and confirm it has thermal grease and proper contact on the chip. The heat sink can only be properly mounted in one direction if I recall one side is milled off to clear the chip mount. This is a long shot but I have had this happen before.

I’ll check on that tomorrow (it's 10:00 PM in France) and get back to you.
Thank you.
Remy
-
OK don't worry we will get you going. Have a good night.
-
Thank you very much.
See you soon.
Remy
-
Hello. I disassembled the heat sink, cleaned it and replaced it with thermal grease, but still no change in the operation of the machine.
It always stops on the blank blue screen.
Do you think it is possible to find the original CDs to reinstall the software?
Thank you.
Remy
-
It is unusual for the top box to stop on the light blue screen like that.
One more thing to try. With the machine off look on the back of the top box and unplug the molex plug that has the gray wires(three or four wires). Then turn the machine on and see if the top box goes any further past the light blue screen.
I doubt we will be able to find a CD.
I can make a drive but I need to know what chips are in the bottom cpu.
With the power off remove the lower tray.
I need to know the following chip numbers : SB, SG and VS.
I assume the machine is set up to take euros.
With that information I can reconstruct and test a drive here.
Also snap a picture of the harddrive so I can see if there is any information on it.
-
I tried this (molex with 3 gray wires), but still the same situation : I have the following 3 screens:
- REEL TOUCH. One moment please
- WELCOME
- blank blue light screen
-
OK send me the chip info (or picture) and HD picture.
I'm out of ideas at this point.
Also possibly look for any stickers on the top box indicating the RFA, ATA, or BGM numbers.
-
I have found these numbers :
- First sticker :
62581705
ATA20045
BGM20344
RFA20003
- Second sticker :
CODE: 1003241
DATE: 551
- Third sticker :
Serial# 55010116
12/13/2005
Model NO : 62581705
DFI-CUSTOM
-
Picture of the hard disk.
-
Just need the chip numbers now.
-
What do you call "chip numbers" and where can I find them?
Thank you.
-
Turn off the machine, on the lower left side is a metal box with a metal tray. Pull the tray out and the MPU is mounted to that tray, what I need is a picture of the board with the chip numbers visible.
-
Here is the picture you need. Is it ok ?
-
MPU Picture
-
Perfect thank you.
A few questions for you.
When you played this machine in the casino did it speak English? Or French (example when the mummy asks to "pick a key")
I have no records of the BGM listed on your top box.
I do have international VS011IX1, SG000503, and SB000523 so I can experiment with the BGMs I have for Denver Duck.
-
I had this machine model a few years ago and the voices were in English, which suits me very well.
-
Hello Rich.
Since today I have a new problem with my machine: the screen no longer shows anything!
I see that the back light works when I turn on the machine, but no sign on the screen...
When I connect an external screen through the VGA socket, I have the usual startup messages, up to the empty blue screen I told you about.
What do you think about that ?
Thank you.
-
That is not really good news.
There is a daughter card on the top box with a few plugs on it. You can try reseating them but be careful the wires and the plugs are very fragile.
There are no spare parts available.
-
On this board there’s a blue light and an orange light? They are both on.
In the bottom right of the top box, there is a very small board, with a flashing green light.
-
Snap a picture, I don't remember a flashing light but could be just the harddrive indicator.
-
This small board is not connected to the hard drive, it is connected to a usb cord that goes to a board behind the screen.
I also checked the connectors of the orange board that is on the motherboard.
-
The USB cord is for the touch screen.
Hard Drive indicator is like any other computer it could be anywhere on the motherboard. Is flashing led on the orange daughter card?
Picture would help
-
No flashing led on the orange board.
-
Did you unplug the one with all the little wires and reseat it.
If you turn it on in the dark can you see if the top box screen show a little light in the background? It will still be black but it should show some lighting.
-
Yes I disconnected and reconnected the connector with the little wires on the orange board.
There is a little light behind the screen when I turn on the machine. I think it’s the backlight.
-
Yes that is the back light, that rules out the high voltage backlight board. So when you use the VGA port with an external monitor it shows all of the things it did before on the screen.
You probably need that orange board not sure where your going to find one.
Please remember that these are very old computers from the 90s. Cycling on and off should be minimized if at all possible. You are beating this thing to death.
-
Ok. I will leave the machine to stop until the hard drive is received: I will already see if the game starts.
I can check that on the external screen.
Thank you :)
-
I'm looking for a board but that's going to be a long shot.
Anyplace you could get a top box in France.
Doesn't have to be a Duck just needs to be any reel touch.
They did use two different screens one was a Sharp not sure of the other screen maker, the top boxes look the same except for the orange board.
Rich
-
There are two brass screws that hold the daughter card to the main cpu you can try removing it and reinstalling but I really doubt this will do anything different.
Remember alignment is critical so make sure the screws line up before you try it.
-
Hello.
Thanks for the information.
I’ll see if I can find a board myself.
-
The screen is working again!
It was the connector that goes from the orange board to the screen and is located behind the cd player that was disconnected. You could only see it by removing that CD player.
I just need to get the hard drive :)
-
That's great, never had that before.
OK I recommend leaving until the HD shows up.
-
Okay, I don’t touch the machine until the hard drive is received;)
-
There is a grey box at the bottom of the machine (picture). It is connected to the EZPay box. I don’t know what it’s for and if it doesn’t block the start of the machine.
-
There seems to be too many flat cables going to the easy pay box. Where do they go and what are the for?
-
I can disconnect the cables from the gray box at the bottom of the machine.
-
That might help where do they go?
Just the three gray wires from the top box should be plugged in there. Another photo of that area would be good.
Also confirm the multi colored ribbon cable connections at both ends(reseat them on both ends and the gray wires plug also)
-
Here’s the bottom of the machine and the connections.
I disconnected and removed the gray box.
It was connected where there are two red circles.
-
So after reseating ribbon cable and gray cable at both ends, removing other gray box, still the same result?
The bottom and top boxes are doing what they are supposed to do right up to when they should have a handshake with each other and start the game.
Also open the top box and reseat the small multi colored ribbon cable next to the cpu heat sink and fan.
-
Looking at your pictures again was that other box spliced into the multi colored ribbon cable? (Hard to tell from the picture)
If it was you need to repair or repair that ribbon cable.
It is common to all IGT S2000s so you should be able to find one in France.
-
I have another S2000 IGT machine.
I replaced the ribbon cable, the MPU board, checked the connectors, but nothing changed, I still have the same display...
-
Yes the drive is performing as it should. It is waiting for the handshake from the lower unit.
I have seen this before, it's not the mpu or the ribbon cable because you changed them. Three things left.
The backplane board, the ezPay board in the center of the lower power distribution box. The last thing and probably the most probable is the top box itself. Since you have another S2000 you can try swapping the ezPay and backplane boards then that would leave you with the top box. This is assuming you have checked the colored ribbon cable in the top box, the gray wired molex plug down to the ezPay board, verified connections at colored ribbon cable in the bottom box.
Send a picture of the colored ribbon cable connection in the top box.
-
I think I found the problem (see picture)
When I disconnect the black jack from the green connector, the sound works normally.
When I plug it back in, the sound gets weak.
Which connector should this jack be plugged into? Green, blue or pink?
Thank you.
-
They have one or the other but not both.
They either have a molex plug from the back of the top box or the mini plug that I believe goes in the blue.
If it is working without the mini plugged in, leave it unplugged.
More proof that this machine has undergone part change outs and is slightly Frankensteined as most Reel Touch machines are that are still alive.
-
So are we checking this topic solved?
1. Initial problem was top box not booting fully due to a bad harddrive.
2. A month and a half waiting for harddrive delivery to France (I have learned a valuable lesson regarding shipping)
3. After replacing the harddrive machine still did not fully boot because of communication issue between the top and bottom computer.
4. Communication issue caused by bad board in the lower center EZ-Pay box. Board replaced and machine worked but sound was weak.
5. Sound fix was not to use the mini plug that is usually used for sound. Sound is being fed through a molex plug in the rear of the top box. Reel Touch uses one or the other to deliver the sound to the amplifier in the top cabinet.
Remy anything else?

Hello Rich.
I can confirm that all operational problems are repaired.
I just have to make some adjustments and programming.
I want to thank you and congratulate you for your prompt and continued assistance.
Tell me the price of the hard drive with the transport.
Thank you.
