This is for sale localy. Does anyone know right off what is wrong?

It works normal but the reels don't stop, they just go until the stop naturaly.  I would love to own it, for the right price. It's at about $600 now.

Actual ad:
We are selling our vintage Ballys slot machine model 873 in original condition. This is a fairly rare "5 Line Pay" model and was a new concept at the time (we believe the machine is a 1970's model).  The majority of the machine works fine (it lights up and all the correct lights and sounds occur with each coin dropped in). The problem is when you pull the lever the reels all spin but then do not stop and continue to free spin until they slow down on their own. The machine does include the original key and was used in a casino back in the day.
...just ask a specific question if you're interested.

The entire reel assembly needs lubed. Remove the reels and you will need to lube all mechanical mechanisms and linkage. Be sure the large and small BLACK cross shafts spin freely by using 2 fingers. If they don't you will get the reels not stopping problem.

Sweet, so I guess I should probably buy it the next time I have $600. It sounds like I could fix it for sure.

 I have 2 WMS, 6 IGT S2000, and 2 Mills so far.

(the pics are correct now)

I have a few of these. Beware that it’s a Bally E series. Bally re-introduced some of their popular machines as E-series and this is one of them. So in addition to getting the mechanism working, the MPU board, I/O board, power supply board,  hopper board, and reel reader boards may all need attention. Not working I wouldn’t pay more than $100 for it. Unless you can do most of the electronic repairs yourself, you could easily spend $200-$400 getting the electronics shopped out.  I’d look for a true EM instead.
Bally 742A-240, 742A-107B, 785-ZP, 809-B, 831-R, 873-K, 1113, 1239-E, 1256-E, V2236-10, V2096-47, S5000+, V5000+, S5500, S6000, IGT PE, Flip-It, Jennings 400, WMS BB1 Goldfish

:I_agree_1: slcjeeper nailed it! The machine in the photo is an E-Series.  You can see the board in the back and on the left side in your photo.
