Did this error just start appearing on a good working machine, or has something recently been done like game eproms removed/changed, jumpers on boards changed, etc? If there was any work done to the machine before this happened we need to know what was done.

Are there any other indications? When the machine is powered up does it give the usual "bong" sound from the speaker a few seconds after power up? You can check the 12 volt power supply in the top box, that is what powers the Dotmation controller board (inside the metal box up there) and the dot matrix screen that mounts to the metal box. And make sure the ribbon cable is connected good to the dot controller board on the left side of the dot controller.

Just to make sure, this is a WMS 40X Stampede with 3 mechanical spinning reels, right?

dot matrix screen was not working so I changed it out and this is were I get the bad frame error. The machine was working fine. no other changes. I have not checked for 12 volts, but the matrix is working fine I changed it out.
thanks

Not understanding the last part of your reply "but the matrix is working fine I changed it out". ??

The replacement dot matrix screen, is it a known good one? Do you have another machine you can try it in? Is the data cable going to the screen in good condition, especially the header? If the machine was working fine and all you did was replace the dot matrix screen then that's the place to look, the DM screen and its 2 cables (power and data).

Sounds to me like it's an error message that essentially is saying that one of the Dotmation graphics chips is corrupt, or isn't being read correctly by the game.  If you have a known good set of chips (even if it's a different game), I'd try that for troubleshooting purposes.

Did you change just the display or the hole metal box from another machine?
