Title: Dotmation DMD Display Issue?
Post by: RILaw on November 07, 2014, 04:49:30 PM
OK, I'm in my basement arcade, having a few adult beverages and I started playing my "X Factor"...I soon noticed the numbers displayed under the ball in the "Power Points" box to the left of the DMD display look like flashing eights without the left and right side of each number eight?  I see the numbers cycle through when I hit a "Power Point" on the reels but then they go back to these screwed up numbers?  I can see the DMD display is working fine, no missing lines, so what could this be?

If it previously had been working correctly, it could be as simple as a poor connection between the MPU and the DMD -- with the power off I'd re-seat the connectors in the DMD box (gently unplug and re-plug all communication wires going to the display and the circuit board in the DMD box), and if you can try tracing the wires back to the backplane, too, and reseat the connections there as well.  If that doesn't solve it, you could also try removing and re-inserting all of the graphics ROMs to make sure they're making a good connection.

If it has never worked correctly, it's possible that the graphics software chips are slightly corrupted.
