I know of a man that has worked at Mandalay Bay in Vegas since it opened and he just got laid off. I've wondered the same thing, whether Vegas will close.

I would imagine that anywhere large populations of people gather, they have or are going to shut down at some point.  This should not be a surprise; if schools and universities, libraries, major and minor sports leagues, etc. are doing it, then it stands to reason that businesses with large work forces and/or those that cater to large groups of people will need to shutter at some point.  It's in the public best interest to do this.  I'm a teacher, and my wife is a librarian, and we got sent home for at least two weeks here in NJ, starting tomorrow.

As others have mentioned on this site, however, at least we will have something to do to while away the hours, playing with our slots, pinball, arcade games, etc.  We'll all get through this together.

 knagl,

I fixed it for you.  Our Governor has just announced that all non-essential business to close for 30 days. This includes casinos.

Here in Calgary Alberta Canada the city has declared a state of emergency.

All public pools, recreation centers are closed. They have indicated that bars and restaurants may remain open but only to 9.00pm but they must ensure a minimum of 2m (6.6ft) between tables. Many have opted to close. Food, Retail and Casinos are excluded from these restrictions. I am not sure how Casinos made the cut as an essential service but that is how it is.

Actually all of our Canadian casinos are mandated to pay 50% of their nightly profits to a rotating list of charities. Conversely the charity supplies unpaid cage and count room employees.

Makes you wonder if Nevada/Vegas will ever let millions of players touch every button on machines without some sort of hand sanitizers when they re-open.Gaming laws may change?  :scratch-head_2:

In the old days when the machines used coins there used to be handy wipes everywhere. Coins made your hands dirty. Some Casinos had these Stands that dispensed them individually like ketchup packets.

When my mom passed we went through her things and there were literally hundreds Though out her numerous Purses. Many had long dried up but had logos of all the old places - dunes, Sahara, sands, pioneer.
Of course I found numerous ketchup packets - it was “that” generation.

There exists antimicrobial additives that can be blended into injection moldable polymers. Some of these have been proven 99.99% effective in killing bacteria, mold, fungi and viruses and can last the lifetime of the product. Maybe one day soon thy will make slot machine buttons and button panels out of this stuff. There must be a lot of other applications too. ATM' machines, credit/debit terminals, etc.
