S+ code 63 - How to clear?
« on: March 11, 2022, 01:47:17 PM »
This is the machine that had deck wiring just hanging when I got it.  Replaced with new deck buttons and I believe got the wiring correct) With deck buttons unplugged from the MPU, it works manually and pays out.  With deck plugged back in, won't accept coins and reels do not turn when lever pulled.  In addition, when plugged in buttons don't do anything.  I am getting a code 63 (optic lock, processor tray switch?).  Have looked for manuals but haven't found them yet.  Stumped at this point.  THX.

S+ manuals can be found in the download section.
As a contributing member (which you are) you have access to this.

Here is a web link to common errors
http://www.slotsdirect.com/spluserrors.html

63 (not on the list above) is Processor Tray open
Manual says: Check Processor Tray Lock Optics / Switch

This would probably be more specific to a Slant model as I have never seen anything like that on an upright.

Please don't ask me how I cleared the "63 code", but I did (I have read so many posts with differing solutions, one of the worked).

I found 2 molex not plugged into anything on the far right inside button deck.
One is brown 4 pin with green/green, purple/purple, blank, red/black.
the other is a 6 pin grey/red, grey/yellow, grey/green, grey/orange, grey/brown, and blue/blue (both female pins).

Tomorrow, I'll get out my schematic and see if and where they should go, but if anyone knows the answer off hald it would help.

6 pin is used for a 3 or 5 line machine to light each line played.

Since this is only a 1 line machine - Is that why it is not used?

Next question, the other wires go to "board, pc, ir, key interface assembly".  I don't know what that is, but could I non have that either because it is a 1 liner?

63 (not on the list above) is Processor Tray open
Manual says: Check Processor Tray Lock Optics / Switch

The processor tray lock optics or switch would have been used on a wide area progressive machine like Megabucks to detect anyone tampering with or removing the MPU board. It was an extra safeguard that would include a physical lock assembly added to the MPU board tray, and some kind of electronic detection if the lock was unlocked.

It obviously isn't needed for home use, but if the software being used is looking for it, it might need a jumper or bypass to make the machine think the board is locked in place, and it sounds like polishdan managed to figure that out.

Since this is only a 1 line machine - Is that why it is not used?

Correct, the plug for the reel glass shadow box/lightbox isn't used on a single line machine, and it's optional to use it on a multi-line game.

You'll find there tend to be many unused wire harnesses on slot machines. Not everything needs to be plugged in. If there's something not working then we can figure out the cause, but if everything is working then don't worry about any extra wires you may find.

Yes, it's not being used for the game you have.
It's an option for a different game that has multiple lines.

Walked through "Input Test" and here is what I found.
13-0 (Door optics receiver) registered 0 (open) with door open and alternated between 0 & 1 kind of blinking back & forth
16-0 Spin - registered 1 (closed) and no change when depressed (microswitch tested good)

Still works fine with button deck harness disconnected from MPU.

Is there a way to test the optic switch with a meter? (and is there only sensor on that circuit)

In the input tests for your Spin button showing as in a "closed" state means that you have the wire connected to the wrong tab on the micro-switch.

It should have changed when you depressed the button though.

Check the wires on the that buttons' switch and see if it is on the same tab as the MAX bet button or BET ONE button.

For your information, with a multimeter, you can easily check to see which tab is in the "open" or "closed" state.

Your deck wiring should be on the "open" tab....it goes to a "closed" state when the little red button of the micro-switch is depressed.

If not, take the micro-switch apart, swap the tabs inside....the internal contacts of the tabs get pitted, corroded, or covered with oxidization.
Watch and listen to how the internal contacts "click" when you depress the little red button.
You will see the mechanical workings of it right away and understand what I mean by swapping the tabs for better contact.

Certain micro-switch's tabs are not interchangeable nor can be swapped...you can tell right away because the tab may have a knob on one side that won't fit into the slot where the other tab is located.
There are different versions of micro-switches for sure but I've found most of the black plastic ones have interchangeable tabs.
Once you do this little mod, the micro-switches work so much better....like brand new really! :)

I traced it back to the plug on the MPU.  I closed (depressed) the deck switch at the plug end on the MPU I got a closed circuit, then released and got an open circuit.  Now what?  Is there a dip switch, or the optic or door optic receiver interfering?  Now what?

I will replace the door optic switch and see what happens.

I don't really wany to be a technician, I just want to get a 30-year-old machine working for fun and friends.

HOORAY AND THANKS!  Here again I can't tell you why things are fixed, but this is what I did.  I (borrowed) one door optic receiver from my PE+  and now I have 4 out of 5 deck buttons working.   I can now initiate the credit function as well as cash out and max bet without pulling the handle!

I still don't know where the gremlin on the spin button is, but thanks for getting me this far.

Glad you got it running!
Which optic did you change?
The door optic emitter or cabinet receiver optic?
They are different.
