Title: Bally alpha S9000 monte carlo,
Post by: idylewild1 on January 29, 2020, 05:31:37 AM
Got in a Bally S9000 Monte Carlo giving top box disconnected and Lamp projector disconnected errors. After setup these two errors will intermittently go off and the top box will setup normal i.e. the top box lights come on and the ball stops at the right spot. After a few seconds the top box lights goes off and the ball starts rotating counter clockwise. This continues over and over again. Have replaced USB cables, palcaced usb cable to top box directly into cpu, replace top box reel control board with a new eprom, replaced top box reel control mother board, replace cpu. Have set up bottom half of machine as a 5 reel standard S9000 game and all runs great.
Am out of ideas and any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Have you looked into your 5/12v power supplies?  There is a version that has a higher amperage rating.  I will look at mine tonight, but I think your machine is running out of juice.  Look at your cache of 5/12v power supplies and also the 24 volt ones and use the ones with the higher current yield (bigger AMP rating).

Have taken each of these from a working machine and replaced. Same errors. Did not check if old or new style, Will do that in A.M. Thanks

Have tried these power supplies. Also found two 3Y power supplies and put them in. Same results. Tried another cash win machine and it has the exact same problem. Both of these machines came from casinos. At a loss.

Do they have the same rated amp capacity on the 5v rail?

Rick, I truly appreciate your help on this problem. Yes they are rated the same.

Have you considered that maybe the casino retired them because they have the issue?  If you had a healthy machine you could narrow it down easily.  Because the top box seems to be "resetting" I'm thinking there's an issue with the wheel itself?  Something is shorting causing it to restart?  Because you have 2 of them doing the exact same thing, it is kind of weird.  If you have a working cabinet, or can get a working one, I would replace the top wheel part to see if it fixes it.  You could have issues on the light ring.

Sold our last working Monte Carlo two weeks ago. Have some extra parts for the top box. Will have to keep trying things. Any ideas please let me know. Thanks. Have not found much documentation on the top box which doesn't help.

Have you looked at all the harnessing to make sure there are not visible issues with the harness, like dirt, or anything that might be causing the wheel to lose power?

Replaced top box reel controller EPROM on both machines made from an old file I had from some other Monte Carlo machines and they both came right up and worked. Guess the EPROMS were bad, had the wrong software, or the software was corrupt. These drove me crazy !!!

I'm still suspicious of the USB connection. I've had the top bonus wheel on my S9000 go nuts, and a new USB cable fixed it.
