Title: New MPU??
Post by: Delma on June 26, 2023, 07:14:56 PM
I'm not exactly sure the model of this machine with Green machine software on it but I'm having issues with it. Game will play for a bit then the screen will lose signal and boot again. I'm thinking power supply but I popped two fresh power supplies in the machine and same thing. That make me think video card so I pull out the cpu and it's one that i have never seen before. There is no video card. I take what looks to be a power supply off the top to get to what I think will be a video card and there nothing. So i'm definitely lost on this one. Do I need a new CPU/MPU if the machine is on but no video is being displayed? Screen says no signal and then cuts off. minutes later i'll see the machine rebooting.

Here are some pics.

That is an Alpha 1 512 MPU.  Dual screen alpha1 needs a dual video card, single monitor does not.  Is that a monitor on top or just glass?  If that is glass on top try reinstalling game.  Probably needs new MPU.

Its just a top glass not another monitor. I'm not actually sure I have a clear card for that MPU. Does it take a 335 clear? I have mpu's that look similar to this one but they aren't this model. The ones i have take a 335 clear and where the vga plugs in is the video card. On this one the VGA isn't attached to anything. If i have the correct clear card I can definitely clear and set it back up and hope that works. If not i'm not sure I can find this MPU.

Which OS card is in it?  You can use any A1 mpu for single monitor and a video card is not required. (bios determines OS, OS determines clear card)

In that case I have extra mpu's then. I have more of the style I'm used to seeing with the detachable video card. The OS on this card says,"AVOS00000336-09 ALPHA OS".

Use 335 clear with 336 OS.

the filthy mpu you have in the pictures is missing the plate with the cooling fans. That combined with all the dirt was probably allowing the cpu to overheat, thus the reboots etc.

I'll add a pic in a sec

Thanks,
Wayne

Perfect then I have extra mpu’s then if any alpha 1 will work. I’ll grab another and get the machine cleared and setup again. Hopefully that does fix the issue.

Nice gorgeous looking mpu’s by the way. Mine is filthy. Yes I don’t normally know what the mpu or components look like until I have an issue with the machine and I have to troubleshoot. That’s when all the cleaning and getting everything fresh happens. I haven’t had issues with this machine in years. Never even knew I had this particular type of MPU in any machine.

Delma,
You need an air tool.
They sell them at Harbor Freight.
Or vacuum everything out.
Blow all that crap outta your machines or you'll be buying MPU's.

Blow out the power supply too. Crap can really build up in them. Be sure all of the cooling fans work.

I once blew out an s9000 power supply in my garage. I instantly regretted it. It was like emptying a vacuum cleaner bag with compressed air.
