Shipping a Slot Machine
« on: July 31, 2021, 05:37:14 PM »
Hi folks!

I'm thinking of doing a raffle for my Bally S9000 to help cover medical costs for a friend of mine diagnosed with stomach cancer. Once the winner is drawn I will need to ship the machine to the winner. For those of you who have shipped machines before (it weighs about 225 -250 pounds) what company would you suggest? I'll need one that will come by, wrap pack and palet the machine and take it over to the winner. ANy help you can provide would be appreciated :) Shipping from AZ.

If you intend to ship a slot machine, I believe you must register with the US Department of Justice. Also, where you're shipping to can be a problem. You can only ship to states or jurisdictions in which the slot is legal.

I would be shipping from Arizona (as I abbreviated AZ in my original post). So let me make sure I got this... Ohio River, Slot Machines Unlimited, and the many folks who sell slot machines on this forum-- just making sure I got this--have to register with the US Department of Justice?

I had to register with the DOJ when I bought some machines from an Ohio vender. It’s no big deal. I had mine sent right to my house
Please remember to make a donation to NLG for mine/our help in repairing your machines problem.. Your donations help keep this site on line.
And remember...
If it's jammed, force it.. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyways...

The issue isnt' where your shipping from its where your shipping to. Different states have different laws concerning the owning of a slot machine.

Don't let all of this information discourage you. Like Amechanic said, the DOJ registration is no big deal. You do it online and it doesn't cost anything. If you aren't registered, I doubt any shipper will move the slot across state lines.

I had two slot machines shipped to me by FEDEX. I don't know if they will crate the machine for you but they do an excellent job shipping.

One thing you should probably make clear in your raffle is that you will only ship to a legal location. If the winner resides in an illegal state, they must provide you a legal shipping address or pick it up themselves in AZ. One option that worked for me was having a slot shipped to a neighboring state and held at the freight depot for customer will call. I picked it up there.
