Post by: brettsrt on February 22, 2021, 06:19:13 PM
Hi i am new to s3000 and am trying to understand how they work as far as installing packages etc. Do each GI need a specific AI or OS to run it? do all machines use the IBRF or IBRM and what are they for? what else is needed for games to be installed? do the boot chips need to be programmed with a special programmer so the "match"

To install packages on an IGT Ascent Platform (Family20), you need a Blue Kangaru DIAGUNV drive. The Kangaru is used to install, remove, format and/or Clear the Hardrive.

The GI MUST be "GI020xxxxxxxx" (Family 20). Ascent will NOT run any Family 14 (GI014xxxxx) games. 99% of Family20 will run SA with the matching BIOS Flash (IBRF) to the OS and CORE you're running. Of course there are always exceptions to the rule. The Kangaru's ALSO must match the level of OS and CORE you're running. Kangaru's ARE backwards compatible. Some games require a certain "minimum" OS to operate. Newer games will require a newer (matching) OS and CORE.

And to answer your last question, 4.0 (S3000 and Crystal Core) hardware BIOS files are Flashed within the machine using the Kangaru in Diagnostic mode. Same place you install the Game file, OS, CORE, etc. Similar to how you Flash Bally Alpha 2 BIOS chips. No need to physically swap chips in a home game room environment.

I'll be listing a "starter" set of Family 20 loaders with matching Kangaru soon.

Hope this helps!
