Igt pe monitor color issue
« on: October 05, 2021, 05:07:20 AM »
Picked up a pe draw poker machine with dead monitor.
I had another monitor for a swap but when i got through the battery low and rom errors I noticed the colors are completely wrong.
1-Tried adjusting color pots front and on neckboard
2-Tried another different monitor
3-made an adapter for the color prom to use a W27C512
4-Tried swapping around R G B signal wires
All with same results
I am stumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Take it all I've had too much for too long

Some progress. I found u54 had 1 led out of the socket
It helped greatly but now the colors are reversed on the cards only. Spades for example are in white letters while all backgrounds of cards are black.
I tried reburning all eproms and color prom and get same results.

Is your spare monitor from an IGT machine? The Ceronix monitors have solder jumpers for different games, covered in the manual. I wonder if that board was from a different brand of game. I don’t know what the jumpers control but reversed colors sound like a positive sign that the game board is working but the RGB channels are reversed. If you are a contributing member the Ceronix 1492 manual is available for download. It is also available outside of NLG, I don’t have the link handy. If you cannot find it PM me and I can look up the link tonight.

Your 1st post said you made an adapter for the color prom and used a 27C512.

You might want to check that to be sure everything is correct. Cold solder joint? Solder bridge? You didn't mention why you needed the adapter.

Any chance you can put in an original CAP prom and see if anything changes/works?

You can fix almost any electronic device by replacing the aluminum electrolytic capacitors.

Yes i have seen "remove for slot" on the board
I have tried a ceronix 1490, a go7fbo, and a wells gardner monitor all have same results.
I have tried swapping the rgb inputs but the card background shows up with 1, 2 or all 3 rgb's connected in any combination. I am stuck on this being a board issue and i'm in the process on searching the schematics for the. possible issue
Thanks for the input

You have an original 1492 monitor?

I don't know much about the cap proms. But I did try to burn and replace one once and I could have swore I wrote down what the original prom was. But the only way I got it working again was trying other cap proms and it worked. I can't remember what numbers I tried. Maybe try other CAP prom files? It seemed to me I had similar looking color display problems you have in the picture. Too long ago and I can't remember exactly what it looked like. Maybe worth a try.

Seems I checked the information from the site about the correct CAP prom for the games I was using and seems like I had to use a different one than recommended. I was on a super board, if that matters.

Can't say I can think of any thing else to suggest at this time.

Maybe another member with more experience with the CAP proms will chime in.

EDIT - Old PE machine I guess the if 1490 is the original. I have only worked with machines that have 1492 models in them. Plus the 1492 models that come from the Brunswick bowling machines won't work according to everything I have read. I don't know what that means as I have not tried one to see if the problem could be overcome.

By looking at your last pic, I’d say that it’s the solder jumpers, located on the bottom of the Ceronix board.
Please remember to make a donation to NLG for mine/our help in repairing your machines problem.. Your donations help keep this site on line.
And remember...
If it's jammed, force it.. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyways...

The green drive transistor on the Ceronix board may be bad or the green color wire on the 15 pin monitor harness may be open.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

Update/ Solved
I succeeded in frying my go7 monitor by leaving the screwdriver to discharge tobe inserted then flipped the power switch. DOH!!    Well this moved me back to the original ceronix 1490 monitor after a lot of troubleshooting the onl part i couldn't figure out how to test was the LA7830 ic. I replaced it and with a hearty " WORK YOU PIECE OF $#!÷!! I seen an image slowly coming on.  And here are the results...
All that being said it appears the ceronix 1490 carries the burden of color placement..
Never would have thought that.  Thankful I was able to get it going.
Thanks to everyones input and suggestions they are greatly appreciated.
