Title: DBV-145 Not Accepting Bills
Post by: Justin on February 06, 2018, 07:27:54 PM
I have recently bought a untested DBV-145 bill acceptor on ebay. The vaidator turns on and the solenoid on the back actuates a black bar with metal inserts up and down. When a bill is inserted the motors do nothing and the solenoid continues moving the bar up and down.

What game is it to be installed in?
What are the numbers on the chip inside it, does the chip have a label?

This is in a change machine. The numbers on the chip are pb145 3.50b new 10.00

Is there a chance you could post a picture of the machine where the bills are stacked after acceptance.
On the right side of the bill validator head there is a long brown connector, how many pins does this connector have?
You may have purchased a non working head but more info will help determine that.

PM me if you want to communicate that way, our shop has plenty of spare 145 heads cleaned and tested but the software number appears unique.

I found this jcm 3.50b software listing under DBV-45 (not DBV-145), could the DBV be a DBV-45? The last software listed at jcm's website for the DBV-145 is version 3.40b.

Can 45 software migrate to the 145 hardware design.
I always assumed it could.

I don't know those dbv models well enough to say, but since jcm doesn't list a version 3.50b for the DBV-145 that may be what happened, perhaps someone installed the 3.50b DBV-45 eprom into his DBV-145. The dbv should accept a $1 bill no matter how old the software is, so there may be problem with it since it doesn't try to pull in the bill. Or maybe it isn't able to complete the power-on initialization because the stacker, transport or other parts in the change machine are missing or not working. Hard to say.

Also, the change machine would likely have a power supply to operate the DBV-145, so the power supply may have a problem.

If he is wanting to get the change machine working he may be able to get a good DBV-145 from you and install the eprom from the DBV-145 that's in the change machine now. That's assuming the power supply and other parts in the change machine are ok.

I agree, get a known good and tested 145 head that was programmed with ID022 and tested in the related machine then send me their head and software so I can put the software into the 145 head and send it back to further trouble shoot the system with a known good component to start with.

This does not have a stacker, but it does have a black "flap"(i know great wording) that moves up and down with the solenoid. Here is a picture

Upon receiving it after it didnt work i decided to open and try to clean it, it looks like a hybrid between dbv-145, and dbv-45. I have been in contact with the jcm support, but they didnt have much documentation. But they did say dbv-145, and dbv-45 are basically the same.

Why not pickup a DBV200 and power supply on ebay. They fit the same chassis etc.
It has 4 way acceptance vs 2 way.
The software is not much newer but your frustration level will be much lower.

A simple and often repeated quote from Buzz and others!

"If you decide to get a new one forget about a DBV 145 and get a DBV 200. They use the same transport, you will need a 200 BV power supply  IMO a DBV 145 was junk on it's very best day."

I don't know a whole lot about bill acceptors but If you fully insist on keeping that thing I am going to suggest you utilize NLG's search box and type in DBV 145...you will find tons of information from past members that have worked on these.

The only thing I know for sure is to make sure that you ONLY use warm, soapy water to clean the optical sensors on bill acceptors because the lens are made of plastic. Plastic scratches very, very easily and only makes things harder for the acceptor to see the pictures on the bills.

The belts too...can you imagine the rubber? Might be 30 year old rubber that's brittle as an old Frisbee or Tupperware bowl laying on the ground in the sun for a couple of years. Or as gummy as wet tar...depending on which ones they put in.

Finally, a lot of those chip stickers may be incorrect with what is actually in there too.
You can't always rely on them.
If you have a chip reader, you might be able to read what's in it...there's more info on these like I said, by using the search box in NLG.
Good luck!
Let us know how you get this working the way you want to!

I found a JCM manual for the DBV-45/145, it may be of help to you. But it is too large to attach here. PM your email address to me and I will email it. Below is the front cover of the manual.

If your plan is to remove it from the change machine and install it into a slot machine I'm pretty sure you will have to replace the eprom inside the DBV with one that is compatible with the slot machine.
