Title: What is this black box on my S+ machine?
Post by: twinfire on December 20, 2023, 07:42:51 PM
Curious as to what this black box is used for?   :Scratch-Head:

My other S+ machine does not have this box; it is located on the back wall just above the MPU.  Picture attached

This box has two plugs that plug into the motherboard that’s mounted on the floor of the machine. The right hand side of the box looks to have a two pin connector that’s not being used (yellow arrow).

Both of my machines have this two pin connector (yellow circle) that’s not being used, any idea what that is for? This unused connector (yellow circle) will not reach/fit into the unused pin connector on the box (yellow arrow).

 :thank_you:

It was for player tracking, remove it and toss it.

Some folks also use that COMM Interface board as the link between the cabinet's MPU board, and the topbox computer for games like Pinball, Run For Your Money, Top Dollar, Wheel of Fortune, etc.etc.  :cool_thumb_up:

Thanks guys, appreciate your input on the box. I won’t concern myself with it at this time. Maybe I’ll remove it later when I disassemble the machine and get it all polished up.

Don't toss that board, someone may need it when there board goes south. and that board has failed before.

it is only needed on Barcrest top box machines. That I am aware .
