Bally V22/32 Fault error
« on: April 15, 2023, 07:34:11 PM »
Having an error pop up on my V22/32 Bally machine. It's an error that i've never seen before and I want to know if anyone knows what it means.

The machine plays fine for a couple hours and then it freezes and the red fault box pops up. When i turn the key twice it plays for another hour or so and does the same thing.

Instinct tells me video card. But I'm sure i'm probably wrong as I've never seen an error pop bc of the video card. Either blank screen bc the monitor is not receiving video properly or I've had issues in the boot process when the graphics try to load. Never seen an error pop for video card so i'm a little lost with this one. Any help would be appreciated.  :Scratch-Head:

This is really a long shot, but maybe worth some consideration. I recently had an Alpha 1 S9000 machine running fine for half a day then it started getting intermittent errors that made no sense. I could clear it by rebooting, but it would reoccur. I suspected overheating. I found several cooling fans weren't working. One of them was the fan for the 24v power supply. This power supply also had a badly swollen capacitor. I replaced the 24v power supply, the two fans in the 12v power supply, and the upper and lower cabinet fans. The error never happened again.

I've heard these Bally Alpha's are sensitive to heat. Check all of your cooling fans. There are a lot of them, and the Bally puts out a lot of heat.

Mediasvr is a topper video issue.  You either have the wrong port connected to the video topper, bad video cable, or your video topper is not working and the system cannot find it when it polls the video system.

Thanks for the help on this.

Now I've noticed it only does it at the end of a bonus. It's not showing an error anymore the screen just goes black.

I will check the port for the topper, possibly replace the cable. I dont have another topper laying around although I should. I'll also check all of the cooling fans.

With the topper being the issue what if I just don't use the topper until I can get another? It's a V32 game on a 22/32 machine. The 22 screen isn't used for gameplay. It has a media card hooked to it just to display a small fireball clip. It's pretty easy to switch what's currently on the topper to the 22 in screen instead. Would this still cause the topper error issue?

That should fix it.  The game requires a topper if I'm not mistaken and won't run without something displaying the topper image.

Fire Links actually DO use the topper. If its coming out of the Firelink bonus and the progressive information is transferred to the Topper screen. That may be why you are only seeing the error after a bonus. I remember reading somewhere that they always have to show the progressives (if available in the bonus) on screen at all times.

Hope this helps.

O yeah for sure the firelink game does use the topper. I was saying it doesn’t use the 22 screen. I just moved what would be displayed on the topper down to the 22 screen and ran cable from topper to media card. That fixed the issue. Hasnt freeze or popped another error yet. I’ve ordered another topper and I’ll hook it back up correctly once I receive it. Topper seems to be playing the short video from the media board just fine though.

Thanks for all the help on this.

Ok tricking the machine to run what should be on the topper display on the 22 worked for awhile. Now its just lagging. Like really really bad. Hasn't had an error pop yet but it's delayed reaction is like 5 seconds after spin button is pressed and reels lag pretty bad.

I would look at the event logs in the diagnostic menu to see if there is some repeating message that may give you a clue as to what is going on.

Just a little update on this issue.

It seems to me the CPU was the problem the entire time and not much else. Well I'll keep my fingers crossed. But my last issue with this machine was May,2nd and on that day i swapped out the 2.0 CPU for a 2.1 CPU. I've heard about 2.0 CPU's having a lagging problem but never actually experienced it until now in all of these years. Guess I got a little lucky. I don't normally run 2.1 or 2.4 CPU unless i'm running a carousel game or game with pretty large file size because of the amount of graphics. But anywho......I haven't had one issue with the machine lagging, popping and error, nothing since I changed the CPU, cleared and setup. Could've just needed a clear and reset?? :Scratch-Head: Not sure but for now it's not broken so I won't fix it.

Back to the drawing board with this one. new CPU 2.1 worked for awhile. Now 3-4 times a day the blue box with "primary touchscreen error" pops up. Machine works fine for a couple hours after you turn it off then back on then same message pops up. I'll be going through some different options to troubleshoot the issue. For some reason I can't keep this machine running :banghead:

This one might actually be primary touch com error. Touch controller could be going out. I put a new screen on. Let's see what happens

You could just replace the touchscreen controller, they can be found on e-bay for like $20 to $30 last time I bought a few.

Yes yes for sure. Right now I'm just trying to diagnose one thing at a time. If the new screen fixes the issue then I'll certainly replace the touch controller on the screen that was on the machine.

Alright.......New screen same issue. Game freezes and says primary touch com error. The only way to get past it is to restart the machine. So new 2.1 CPU.....not the issue. New touch screen.....not the issue. Next I'll be installing new topper and might as well replace the video cable as well. I'll update results.

In the process of doing this i went in the diagnostic settings to see if there was a common error and noticed as I was going through the menu the touch did actually go out. This got me thinking the touch cable itself might be bad. Replaced the touch cable and got a new error. Do I need to clear and reset for touch cable?
