I have a S+ with very low volume. The problem is on the motherboard. I swapped it with another and it worked fine. I also put it another machine and had the same problem. I checked for bent pins, bad solder joints and broken traces under magnification to no avail.

Look for blue volume knob on top of MPU. (motherboard is the backplane the MPU slides into.)

Sometimes the volume wheel goes flaky on you. I've found that when that happens there is often a sweet spot (for lack of a better term). Try turning it all the way in one direction then slowly test each position on the wheel one tiny turn at a time. You may find a sweet spot where the volume control gives you better output.

The problem is DEFINATELY on the motherboard. I swapped the motherboard into a working machine and the problem moved with it. The MPU board, volume control and speakers are fine.
