Title: Bill Val Com Errror
Post by: Affordable Slots on November 17, 2014, 10:29:42 PM
I am having an issue with my WMS BB2. I have had this cabinet for over a year now, and I cant seem to get ANY bill Validators to work in it. This cabenet is new to me, so it has never worked, but my games all load up fine.
I have ram cleared the machine several times with working WBA's, no go!... so on to MEI... still no go!... I now have a UBA10 in there... Nothing... still saying "Bill Val Com Error" Yes, before anyone asks me, The bill validators all are for WMS... they came out of my other WORKING BB2. they are all IDO 03.
I have also made sure the device settings in the setup menu are for the correct bill validators as well.

I found a wire pulled out of the socket where the plug is connected from the harness of the machine to the plug that goes to the bill validator... I put it back in the way it is on my other WMS machine, and it still isn't working.

Any ideas of what the issue could be?

Only thing I can Guess is I need a new wire harness... I have even swapped out the backplane board!

Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

I agree on trying a known good BV wiring harness, I probably would have tried that before putting in the 3rd bill acceptor but that's just me. Does the BV power up and do its initialization routine when the machine is turned on? Does it pull a dollar bill in and then reject it, or won't even pull it in? If the BV isn't doing anything, not making a sound, then I'd make sure it has power.

There are some jumper settings on the BB backplane that will configure the protocol from RS-232 to TT-L for validators.  If your validators are not RS-232 you need to make sure it is set to TT-L.  If they are are RS-232 (on the WBA it is the small board that goes on the side, on the UBA they are jumper settings).

I think you may be onto something... Where are the jumpers on the Backplane board? and do you know what Dip settings I have to have for the UBA 10?

i found the jumpers on the backplane... the jumpers are ALL on pins 2, and 3. the top pin is open and showing and all dips.

I set the jumpers to match my other machine. the J2 jumper was on pins 1,and 2. but I have a UBA 10 in there now, not sure what jumpers needed to work for it... it just came up! its working!!!
that was the issue, the jumpers!
Thanks sooo much!

Awesome!!!  I was just going to post the settings when I read your message.  For future reference.

If you have a UBA and your UBA is set to TTL, which you can see by checking the jumpers under the validators, and they are set to 1/2 on all 3 jumpers.  All dip switches down.
If you have a WBA with no RS-232 board, same jumpers for the backplane.

The backplane jumpers JP1 2/3, JP2 1/2, and JP3 2/3.

If you have an MEI validator or a UBA set for RS-232 (all 3 jumpers under transport set to 2/3) or WBA set for RS-232 (side mounted RS-232 board), then all JP1, JP2, and JP3 must be set to 2/3.

Thanks, That info should be helpful for others with this issue as well.

Rick,

Please give me the jumper settings for a WBA  WITH  the rs232 board on the side.  I am trying a new BV in my BB1.5 and I also get the "comm error" but I notice it has a board on the side of the BV that I have not seen before on any of my other ones.

My current one works but has no RS232 board so I guess I must change jumpers to use the other one??
Thanks
Steve

You can just remove the RS-232 board.  Otherwise all jumpers to positions 2/3.

Perfect!!!!!,

I have already removed it, but not un-bundled the cable in order to plug it directly into the main board on the BV.  That was to be my next "experiment".

Thanks again for your expert knowledge (and willingness to share it)  :-)  I' learning more and more each day..............

There's only one cable, if I remember correctly and it only goes into 1 place on the validator logic board.

Right.

It's the multicolor/wire cable that terminates into the small brown mini molex plug. Goes right into the side of the main board on the BV (lower left when viewed from the front)

I am having an issue getting my validator to work as well.  Just got a BB2 and it came with a UBA validator.  All the jumpers underneath are on pins 2 and 3.  It has a red light on the front of it, which isnt  good usually, but it will not cycle or accept bills.  I found the jumpers on the back plane, but not sure where they should be.  When I set it up in "Devices" should I set it up as MARS or JCM?

JCM

A red light one that validator is normal, it just means it has power.  Where did you get this machine?  I know when I work on a machine that came out of a casino, sometimes the techs put anything on it to make it parts complete and they put validators that have the wrong software on it.  At the jcm website you can download the jcm tools and connect the validator to a laptop through USB and verify what software is on the validator. It needs to be IDO03 for it to work on a WMS machine.

It has a sticker on it that says IDO03.   I am pretty sure that is what it has. I moved all 3 of theJumpers underneath to the 1st and 2nd pins to make it TTL, but not sure where I should move the jumpers on the back plane for JP2, JP3, and JP4.   Also, should the bill validator cycle right when I turn on the machine, or do I need to let the game start up 1st?

Sorry I meant JP1, JP2, and JP3
