Post by: GOS on April 11, 2016, 05:05:08 AM
i have a s5500 with a U3 with a broken pin - my question is do all the mains have to be the same manufacture/speed 27c512s?  I have 27c512-120

My experience is that they don't all have to be the same speed or brand/manufacturer. If the -120 is what was originally in the board I'd stick with using another one that is -120 or faster, which would be a lower number like -100, -90 etc.

The microprocessor chip on the mpu board has a timing cycle to read the data from the mains chips, as long as the mains is ready when that happens all is ok.

As long as the access time is faster than the CPU then any chip as fast or faster than that can be used.

As an example, a CPU chip that runs at 2 Mhz would need ram or eprom chips with an access time
of 500 nano seconds or faster. Your -120 chip would work with any processor with a speed of 8.3 Mhz
