Title: Are people interested in other free play options.
Post by: Retro tech repair on May 04, 2020, 10:03:21 AM
With the loss of my job i have had a lot of time to tinker on some of my old projects one of which was a free play option. My device uses the coin comparator and hopper plugs so it does not require and complicated communication settings. I even have an idea of how to make it function with the coin mech and hopper still in place and can and the user able to switch between the 2. Yes this would also work in an i game and i even have a working prototype for s+, but I mainly have used them in my s2000s.

I think a lot of people would like this especially if it is easily removable and doesn't permanently alter the machine.

I have tried hacking the hopper by creating a payout simulator from the lid of a icecream pail but its a pain to add/remove and if people are still dropping in coins vs playing vs credits it causes problems.

It is 100% removable does not require any modifications to the actual machine other than maybe adding a button somewhere to trigger adding coins. I usually used the service button or cash out button.

I would be interested in it. Getting tired of feeding nickels into my poker machine when credits run out  :))

I have a S+ Red white and blue, that I'm currently looking for the most efficient way to free game it.

I've seen the little white coin switch, that requires the door sensor to be disabled. I've heard of a hopper plug.

Interwebs research on free play is where most of my time is spent.

Coin out is a lot easier to fake than coin in.

S+ coin out is satisfied when xx coins pass the optical sensor.
You can game that with a rotating disk with cutouts.

Both coin in and out simulators are possible with an Arduino for s+ and s2000. I don’t know if i still have my code or test board.

That can be done on the s2000 coin out also. I prefer a circuit to dummy it out tho its a lot cleaner and can have a switch to select between the simulator and the coin hardware. I had woring prototypes for both s+ and s2000 coin in and out. S+ coin in has been done for a long time s2000 coin in is basically the same thing but with one of the 3 lines inverted.

If you can find the diagram or schematic. I would appreciate it. Or if you can make something I'll cover materials and labor.

It's the last part I need before I can get the machine over to my mothers. It's an late birthday gift.

I quit getting notifications from the site. I did find schematic and files to recreate this project.

You stop getting notifications for a particular thread if you don't go in and read it, once you have read the post the notifications with automatically continue unless you turn the notifications off.

What browser are you using - appears 100% on my end, and I am just using the the site like any other user, other than my moderation responsibilties.

I view from my phone so i just assume its a bad translation into mobile so just ignore it. The site has always been buggy (it would not zoom unless I refreshed multiple times) for me on mobile devices but that’s normal for complex sites like forums.

From the Iphone Appstore or samsung playstore you can download Chrome which is much better than the built in browsers that come with the phone.
