Title: Battery Curse
Post by: ItsaSlotMachine on August 27, 2022, 09:15:34 AM
Hello everyone, it’s me again and I have a battery curse. So I was powering up my Blue Bird 1 with a CPU-NXT 2 installed and it said that battery 1 was low. I took the battery out and put it back in. It cleared the error. A similar thing happened to another CPU (CPU-NXT1) where the error would get progressively worse. By the end the CPU always said that the battery was low even with a new battery installed. I am worried that the same is happening to my CPU-NXT 2 which makes me sad since I just got it a month again. I am also concerned that it is the backplane or something going on with the electronics that keeps “burning out” CPUs. When I look in the menu. I see a series of 5 readings that say “battery 1 low” battery 1 ok.” Would I need throw out my entire Blue Bird 1 and start over with another Blue Bird? Or is there hope for this CPU?

Thank you for your time

I have not had those issues with WMS MPU's.  Are you checking the voltages on the "new" batteries that you are installing?  Most of the time you start getting the low battery warnings when the voltage drops below 2.7v.  Most new batteries will meter around 3.2 or 3.3v.  Depending on how long you keep an mpu turned off.  If your mpu's keep killing batteries in a short amount of time (like a couple of weeks), then you may have a short on the battery circuit somewhere causing the issue, in which case you should probably source another mpu.  Right now cpunxt and cpunxt2 mpu's are plentiful and cheap, so I would pick a couple of spares while you still can and store them without batteries installed.

Thank you so much and I suspect there’s a short. I’ll get myself some more CPU-NXT and CPU-NXT 2 for storage. Where can I find myself the MPUs?

post a WTB ad in the classifieds, most of the dealers that frequent this site usually have some of these for sale.  If not ebay has them relatively frequently, buy from someone with good and plentiful feedback and you should be ok.

@itsaslotmachine

Curious, what is your source for the batteries?    I been getting some bad one's off Amazon...   Maybe similar issue with you.    I would doubt a short.
