Title: Jackpot bell issue
Post by: Phan000 on August 31, 2022, 06:20:02 AM
Friend  has machine in photo.

States that the bell became wanky, and now only sounds every once in a while.

I don’t have a spare bell to test, but is this likely a dirty or mis adjusted switch, or the bell itself?

Thanks

The contacts might need to be adjusted.
These contacts are a little different and minor changes can effect the bell.
Also possibly the striker or the bell itself is not aligned.
Or something like a wire is interfering.
Inspect the coil for evidence of heat, could be a factor.

looks like an 889 with the progressive stuff removed or covered up.

if so, the bell should have blue and red wires connected to it.  If he jumpers the red bell wire to the yellow wire on the coin switch, that should power the bell.

if it rings steadily, the bell is okay and the issue is elsewhere - depends on the exact model and when the bell rings (if it rings on all pays, check payout relay switch with yellow wire connecting to a green/white wire when the payout relay is powered).

if it doesn't ring steadily with direct power, check things david mentioned for issues with the bell itself.

Good advice Wolftalk.
Jumping the red to isolate the bell from the circuit.

Thanks for the advice.  I’ll try to sort him out this weekend.
I think the bell used to ring with every win.

I had to bring his machine home.  Made no progress at his place.

Wiring is pretty sketchy.  Lots of repairs.

He really want the bell to ring.

I tested, and it does work.

He’s fine with adding another janky splice if necessary:)

It seems to be the payout relay.  I adjusted and the bell worked great for a bit.

Now, not ringing again.

If I jump that switch,  the bell chimes.

I compared the switch to my other hoppers and it seems ok?

The relay definitely powers.  Can see it move when a win hits.

the switch gap is too big.  The short blade should deflect some after the contacts touch ... that overtravel wipes the contact faces across each other and helps keep the switch reliable.

Thanks for the suggestions David and Wolf.

The adjustment did the trick.  My buddy is happy that the bell is working again.
