Title: IGT S+ Intermediate Cabinet Stiff Hopper Motor
Post by: MarkHart on October 01, 2022, 10:15:28 PM
I have an older (1989) S+ Double Diamond with an intermediate size cabinet.  When it tries to pay it makes a thunking sound and throws a 3200 error. I removed the agitator and coin shelf and cleaned them, but they weren’t too bad.  I pressed the brake release and the motor does not turn.  I can turn the shaft by hand but it is pretty stiff.  Is this something that I can lubricate or is the motor shot?

The flange shaft has a sealed bearing. Does the shaft turn freely if you remove the motor? Are the screws in the agitator/coin wheels the correct length? If one or more is too long it will rub the back plate and cause dragging or even stop it from turning. If these things are good, you likely need a motor. The clunk sound make me thing something is broken inside the gearbox. I have a spare motor and gearbox assy if you need one. The motor will have a moderate amount of resistance when turning by hand but it should not stop with the brake released.

I took the motor off of the hopper and it was pretty tight.  I managed to loosen it up and run 110 volts to it and it started running again.  I put everything back together and it worked fine for a few payouts and hung up.  The motor brake was engaged and I broke it loose with my finger.  I will take the brake apart and clean it and see if it stops sticking. Thanks!
