Good morning. I have this problem with my machine randomly pays out one dollar too much. I have cleaned out the hopper payout optics. Still does it. I also need a door harness and the plastic that holds the light sockets.

Does the hopper give you an error code when it overpays? It should.

The optics wouldn't be the problem because it is counting to the point of one extra coin over paid each time.

The hopper brake pawl spring being too loose or an incorrectly sized wheel shelf sounds more like why the coin won't stop before it reaches the highest point of the hopper knife.

Thanks for getting back to me. I get the 3100 code when it happens. It's erratic and it's always on the 4 dollar payout. I will look into the spring issue and thank you again. Patrick

In the hopper, the disc behind the wheel shelf with the raised nibs, is the one that grabs and spaces out the coins onto the plate.
You might have an incorrectly sized disc that's much larger and is for the bigger casino tokens.

If that's true, then what could be happening is that when the brake pawl stops the motor shaft from turning when it's supposed to, the smaller dollar coin moves forward in between the nibs of the disc, and the forward nib doesn't stop the coin in time and falls off of the knife into the hopper optics.....resulting in an extra coin paid out and the resulting [3100] error code.
A disc with narrower nibs for smaller coins is needed.

I don't know because I've only ever used quarters for coins....not the slightly larger dollar pieces or casino tokens.

The other thing about the hopper pawl spring...if it's become somewhat old and stretched/loosened, it doesn't pull the brake pawl back onto the motor shaft nib hard enough to stop it from turning in time.....the brake pawl could be jumping worn shaft nibs and letting an extra coin go through the hopper optics.
There's only two nibs on the motor shaft if you look at them - one on each side of the motor shaft.
Sometimes one or the other gets a little worn down.
Since no one makes these small, odd parts anymore, the only way to square up and straighten a nib is to use a small Dremel tool.

The brake pawl spring cannot be too tight either, or the pawl won't release the nib and allow the shaft to turn.
Only complete understanding and careful, anal inspection of the brake components of a hopper's operation allows you to determine what is needed to be done to get it working correctly.

The best way to physically see what's going on as coins travel over the knife, is to remove the bowl and turn the motor by hand, with some coins placed in the nibs of the disc - watching the coins go around, and seeing how an extra coin doesn't stop when the coin before it goes through the hopper optics.
