Title: ALL MEMBERS PLEASE READ- A "FUNNY" question.
Post by: shortrackskater on August 25, 2020, 08:09:56 PM
Has anyone had any trouble seeing the funnies on the home page? Please respond and tell me what browser you have and what system you are using: Windows 10, Safari, etc... Phone or real computer, iPad, etc...
 :thank_you:

Windows 10, latest build, and Firefox no cartoons 90% of the time. Occasionally, and randomly, they would pop up after multiple visits to NLG in a day.

Windows 10 using chrome.  When I pay attention, I usually see them.  I see them right now (Garfield, Peanuts, Dilbert).

Win10, Firefox: always there but if you increase zoom level past 100% you have to use the slide bar under the lowest funny to see the whole thing.

I see the cartoons consistently.
Win 10 1898, IE 11 (corporate PC), also Chrome
Win 10 2004, Latest Edge (with the swirly icon), Chrome
Win 10 1905, Edge (no swirly icon), Chrome
iPhone 11 ios 13.6.1, Safari

When I have on occasion NOT got them its usually associated with poor bandwidth.
What I have noticed is when the NLG page is loading it is pulling its RSS feed from 3rd parties (aka the cartoon site), and if x period of time passes the rest of NLG loads and the cartoons don't. When this occurs I get a frame with a X in the middle. I have also noticed that a place holder for the cartoon gets cached in my browser and no matter the number of refreshes it won't come back until I clear my cache, use a different browser or the cartoon changes.

On the iPad you only get two or three squares of the comics and nothing more.
The whole home page is pushed to the left 2/3 of the screen.

Go to www.speedtest.net (http://www.speedtest.net) and look at the internet speed.
I have an Ipad and don't have issues other than a bit of a squeezed format.

I’ve got 20/20 at work and 200/25 at home.
Been this way since the crash right after the new site stated.

Here is a screenshot.
There is no difference in orientation.

Thats the way frames work in Iphone and Ipad. Its a resolution issue not orientation. You might be able to play with your settings to change the default text size to 80% and improve it a bit but I have never choosen to bother as my old eyes don't want smaller stuff to read.

** Note that speed test will tell you what your actually getting vs what you have subscribed and are paying for.

So I'll throw out the problem to the members who have replied... (And, thank you all)
Will someone help troubleshooting the "funnies problem" Alan (Badbaud) has? He's just getting the little empty squares where there ought to be a gif image of the cartoon.

One thing for Alan... do you see the Sunday funnies? They're a JPG image.

I have also been using Malwarebytes Browser Guard, forgot about it.

I turned off its Adds Tracker just on the NLG site and the funnies show up.

Tried that same thing on the shop computer and the funnies show up there.

Why would MWB think you are generating adds?

Done that do that since I was XP.
I am wondering why Firefox won't play any videos on Fox news though.
All I get is a spinning working on it circle.

You may have conflicting anti virus and malware programs. They might "think" each other are infiltrators.

I have a "Buzz" reply:
It's like wearing 10 condoms... it ain't gonna work!
