Title: Bucks Ahoy load issue
Post by: Train68 on July 08, 2020, 07:48:28 PM
Hello All,
Here is my issue on Bucks Ahoy. I changed the batteries on the mpu and top box after the machine sat for awhile and had a cmos error. I was able to hook up a usb keyboard and set the date/time and optimize default settings. When i go to boot it up, it gets up to the point where it says...initializing please wait..and list a series of directories that you can see on the pic..it will just sit there forever.  ive tried resetting connectors and mpu etc  still nothing.  Any help would be appreciated..

What does the VFD say as it is booting up?

It just says call attendant. When I first turn it in it comes up with a netplex error but that goes away.

Turn the machine on. Wait for the call attendant (I'm assuming that it comes up shortly after the netplex error). Then open the main door, turn the jackpot key 3 or 4 times. The VFD should now say press reset button for 5 seconds and close the main door. Do that and close door. Top box should finish it's boot and you should be good to go

What if you don’t have a jackpot key. I know they are available to buy but is there some workaround. If not I’ll have to just buy one.
Thanks

Yes the jackpot key slot is on the right side of the cabinet. (Flat key, not round key).
There are two wires going to the key switch you can momentarily short those together to simulate one key turn.
For ease of use just buy one. You will need for reel tilts and other issues, but use the above method to see if we can get you going.

That's great!
Here is what happened. When you replace the coin battery in the mpu you must reset it by turning the jackpot key. So in your case you replaced the top box battery and reset it by loading the optimized defaults. So it was ready but the mpu on the bottom was not. Once you reset the bottom mpu with the jackpot key you were good to go.
You should probably purchase a jackpot key along  with a clear 224 and a key 45 chip for any other issues that may come up.
Contact member RB for these items if you would like to purchase them, he is a good guy.
I'm going to mark this post solved.
