Title: Bucks Ahoy Hard Drive Compatibility
Post by: Border01 on October 28, 2021, 12:42:53 PM
Have a Reel Touch with Bios 1, hard drive has failed.  I did not notice till now that it is inadvisable to plug the hard drive into my computer.  I did however and it had multiple errors.  I used windows repair until all errors disappeared.  I will try re-installing the hard drive tonight to see what happens.  My question is can I install a Bios 2 hard drive (I have one) into this machine?

No Bios 1 and Bios 2 harddrives are not interchangeable.
You could change the bios 1 chip in the top box to a Bios 2 chip, then you should be able to use the bios 2 harddrive. Some changes to SB,  VS, and SG chips may also be required

Figured as much.  I will see if I the repair on the original hard drive worked, if not I will be looking for a Bios 2 Chip

Will need to also know SG, SB, VS chips as they may also have to change.

So I did some closer inspection. The wire harness from the hard drive to the motherboard(?) is burnt. Should I try putting the harness from my other reel touch in this machine?  I just got this was yesterday it’s original issue was corrupt RFA

Those harnesses are hard to come by.
It happens when the harddrive is plugged into the connector incorrectly. If you miss by one pin on the harness it cooks.

Any chance you have an extra harness?  Should I rob one out of the other machine to see where I’m at with it?

Swapped the harness, my hard drive has RFA corrupt. So I’m hoping someone has the harness and a Bucks Ahoy hard drive for Bios 1
I have the following:
Version Chip VS011GX1
Game 1 SG310
Game 2 SG310
Base SB00566
Hopefully someone has what I need

I don't have any spare harnesses.
You can try the one from the other machine but you must triple check that the connector is mounted correctly to the harddrive.
Personally I doubt windows repaired that drive.
The operating system on the original harddrive is called windows embedded and it would have to have been repaired with the embedded operating system.
Still you can try but you must make sure you plug the connector correctly. Easy to do wrong I have fried one or two, that is why I don't have spares.
Try a WTB in the classifieds for the harness. I can probably make a harddrive.

Well I learnt not to read a Bios 1 hard drive. Does windows also put hidden files on Bios 2 hard drives?  Don’t want to make the same mistakes again

Bios 2 is more forgiving but not much.
You need to be using windows XP or earlier.
DOS would be better.
Any later windows just adds signatures everywhere that the windows "embedded" used by the Reel Touch can't tolerate.
