Title: Bally s5500 reel error
Post by: Rettus72 on July 02, 2022, 04:42:27 PM
Hello everyone, and thanks for having this forum, it has helped me out previously.
Here is my new problem. I picked up a S5500 black gold machine. The owner said he couldn’t figure out why the coins kept falling through. I put in a different coin comparer and still the same. I removed the bill acceptor, cleaned the optics, plugged it back in, cleared the codes. It took a 1 dollar bill and worked great. I swapped the coin optic board. And it registered the quarters and worked great. Played it for most of the day. Worked great.
Today an error 40 appears. Removed all three reels, cleaned the optics. Still the same.
Now I am receiving a 40, 41, 42, 43, error (not all at once) each time doing a clear .
Conducted a reel test, the first two times reel 1 stopped spinning normal. The third time they cycled around twice with no issues. Conducted a reset. Waited for the 50 code and shut the door. First spin it malfunctions.
Any ideas?

I never come across this problem before. Maybe a weak power supply?

I can definitely look in to that. I also read to try unplugging the bill validater if the power supply is going bad?
I’ll look in to it some more today. What voltage should be at the reel plug?
Thanks again for the help.

Something on the door may be dragging on the reels.
Look for a dangling lamp wire or two.

It looks like the wires going to the bill acceptor we’re rubbing on reel 3.
Played about 50 spins and no malfunction.
As always thank you, and happy 4th of July…
