Title: WBA 12 unreliable and old series currency only. Replace?
Post by: Jay3361 on January 09, 2021, 10:37:07 AM
Hi, I’ve got a WBA 12-SS with two issues.

1. It doesn’t reliably pull bills in.  It feels like it “slips” most of the time, not effectively grabbing the bill.  So it “slips”, then often pulls a bill in and rejects it.  It will occasionally get good traction, pull the bill in and will then apply credits to the machine.  I’ve cleaned it carefully, but to no affect.

2. Even when operating correctly, this one was purchased before the newer series of large portrait currency was issued.  I’d really like to be able to use new $100 bills in it.

With both issues in mind, is my best option to purchase a replacement transport assembly?  And if I do, will it be “plug & play”, or will other parts or action be needed within my slot machine to work with the replacement?

This is in an IGT Double Diamond, S-2000.

It may not be a 12 (flash based) but a 13 (eprom based), the sticker is not always right.  Pull the validator out and look under towards the front.  If you see a socketed chip, you can just get the eprom with with newer software that allows all current bills in circulation, if it has a flash chip you could send it to someone to have it flashed to the new software (requires special interface hardware to do it).  You could fix the slip issue by cleaning the rubber washers that provide the friction that pulls the bills in, or you could just go to home depot and buy new ones that fit (some disassembly is required for this).  I've done the later with 3 of my validators and they are working like champs.  This particular validator is not that expensive, so it might be cheaper to just buy a good known working one that has been updated.  If you get a new one, try to get the ones with the red motors on it, they pull the bills a bit faster since they are more powerful than the original older green ones.
