IGT G23 Device Offline
« on: April 14, 2025, 01:03:07 PM »
I am getting this error. Cannot seem to fix this. I do have an E key and diagnosis key. Is there a way to fix this with out clearing the machine?

Just plug in your ekey and look at the machine logs in the ekey menu.

It should be more specific on what device is actually offline so you can correct it if possible.

I will try that. Do I  turn off the machine before inserting the ekey?

Nope!   If you get that Offline message, just open the machine up, open the cage door and remove the paper from the cage switch, and plug in the ekey.

Don't know the exact menu path, but in the ekey menu that comes up, there should be a machine logs section and you just choose to display all logs and scroll on the screen to find the most recent device offline messages since you booted the machine up.  If they don't make sense to you, take some pics if you can and post them.

And if this just recently started, if you installed anything or changed a setting, it often helps to know what it was.  :)

You can easily load a wide area progressive game or something where it has to be networked to reach a server in Reno or it remains in that offline state.  So anything you installed or enabled since all was ok is possibly relevant.

Error logs after using ekey. Looks like it is the bill validator. The lights on the bill validator are on. I pulled it out, put it back in and checked all cables. Turned the reset key and restarted the machine. Same error, "Device Offline"

Your bill stacker box that the cash can is held inside is showing as open.

Or at least the switch is saying so.    That takes the BV offline.

Open your machine and pull out the cash can in the bill stacker box, then put it back in securely, and ensure the metal door of the bill stacker box is closing all the way and is staying closed.

If it is just a little bit open, tape it so it's securely closed with some duct tape and close all security doors on your machine.  :)    That should clear the error so the BV is marked online again when the machine is all closed up.

If that door opens enough that the switch on it opens, the BV goes offline.   But if the bill stacker door is fully closed and the switch is good, that should mark the BV online again.

If you still get an offline message, ekey in again and look at the logs again.  If there's any other security switches that are showing as open, it will log it in the same place.

Side note.  Don't recall if you can change the BV tilt conditions after they've been set when you configured the machine initially.

If you plug in your ekey with no credits on the machine, and you can get to the Cash handling section.  Locate the BV tilt conditions page and if it lets you change the settings, you can change the conditions of almost anything about the BV to either "soft tilt" or "none".  Many are set to "Hard tilt" by default.

I haven't had to do it, but if you can get to those settings and it will allow you to change the condition of "BV Stacker box open" from "Hard tilt" to "none", that should make the machine ignore if the stacker box is seen as open or not.

Personally, when I configure a machine, I set just about everything about BV tilts to "none", or at least change all that are "Hard tilts" to be set to "Soft tilt".

All my switches close, but if a switch ever goes bad or a door just doesn't stay closed, then it won't trigger a tilt and mark the BV as offline.

That was it! Thank you! I also had to pull out and reset the ticket printer.

Great!

Everyone likes a fix like that, and it isn't something like "oh, you need a new BV".     :applause:
