Title: Toaplan Games
Post by: channelmaniac on May 04, 2014, 06:38:52 PM
Model: Out Zone
Symptom: Dead

Game would sometimes try to start but the address and data busses on the CPU would stop running in about 2 seconds. Resoldered 2 surface mount ICs and replaced a bad 68000-10 CPU.

Game would play but then would be stuck moving up. Replaced a broken SIP resistor network acting as a pull up on the game inputs to finish the repair.

Tip: Jumper settings for ROMs

O = Jumper Open
C = Jumper in place

Main Program ROMs:

23C1000 ROM: JP1 O, JP2 C, JP3 O, JP4 O
27C301 EPROM: JP1 O, JP2 C, JP3 C, JP4 O
27C010 EPROM: JP1 C, JP2 O, JP3 O, JP4 C

Background ROMs:
23C1000 ROM: JP5 C, JP6 O, JP7 O, JP8 O
27C301 EPROM: JP5 C, JP6 O, JP7 O, JP8 C
27C010 EPROM: JP5 O, JP6 C, JP7 C, JP8 O

Sprite ROMs:
23C1000 ROM: JP9 O, JP10 O, JP11 C, JP12 O
27C301 EPROM: JP9 C, JP10 O, JP11 C, JP12 O
27C010 EPROM: JP9 O, JP10 C, JP11 O, JP12 C

These jumpers affect the whole bank.

Take caution when desoldering the power and ground traces on this PCB. They are very heavy and hard to desolder cleanly.
