Title: BYTEK 135H - repair?
Post by: GOS on April 15, 2017, 02:49:49 PM
after many many years of trusty service my bytek gang programmer has finally smoked.  I used this to program bipolar proms and gang programming for SS and SP eproms for years. When I got a load error at startup - and tried several times to reboot - started to sense the dreaded aroma of electrical fire.  Don't know if I want to take this sucker apart - nice to have it working - but not the end of the world.  Anyone ever worked on one of these?

I have not. Shouldn't be hard to find the source of the smell... but may be hard to find schematics to know what to replace the charred parts with.

finally had time to disassemble the burner - inspected and sniffed - cannot see any obvious damage - there is an error when the floppy disk loads - device allows reading of eproms - but recycles when trying to burn one - It may be the power supply as it has never been changed - pictures of the p/s and main board attached - didn't see any obvious part number on it - looks like a mass produced unit.

Had the power supply checked out and it passed tests - so the problem is with the cpu - again - no obvious damage - reads eproms then crashes when I try to program an eprom.  does a complete power up - no error message.  ANYONE?
