Title: Best and Cheapest Way to Ship glass safe
Post by: cuda on December 30, 2017, 08:50:36 PM
I am selling off all my IGT glass but first I have to come up with a good, safe way to ship it.

What is everyone else doing to pack it so it doesn't get broken in shipment and what is the best way to ship?

Does anybody sell or give away a great box that award glass or belly glass fits into for shipping like UPS, or the USPS boxes?

What is standard going rate to ship glass in the lower 48 states?

Thanks for the responses in advance.

I wrap in bubble wrap the give it a card board spine for safety. A guy can't do much more, right?

Do you ship UPS or USPS?  Have you found one cheaper than the other?  Also where do you find boxes to fit the award glass its so big, I hate buying boxes, so I was hoping there was a cheap box option.

I have bubble wrap so I think I will go to the USPS and get a bunch of the free flat rate boxes to do the card board spines. Thanks for the info.

I received a piece of glass a few weeks ago. The seller had wrapped the glass in several layers of small-bubble bubblewrap, then put that between two pieces of 3 inch thick foam on both sides of the glass, this is foam like they use in a seat cushion, somewhat squishy but dense. The foam was wider and longer by several inches than the glass. Then they put a thick piece of cardboard on the outside of the foam, top and bottom. Next they wrapped it several times with that shipping shrink wrap stuff to hold all the layers tightly together. They shipped it by Post Office Priority Mail, it arrived just fine.

No matter who you ship with or how well you package it you have to have some luck because all shippers have their morons that simply don't care. Those guys can damage a hammer.

I have found that USPS is the worst way to ship when it comes to glass and heaver items. I always go with FedEx. Even cheaper price if you have a FedEx account. There is always a risk when shipping glass. Good Luck!

Awesome piece of info.  Do you have an average rate of what you have paid via Fedex to ship like an award glass or a belly glass?

The rate usually depends on location of the shipment..

The FedEx website has a rate calculator, you just put in some info like zipcodes of pickup point and destination, weight, dimensions of package. Then it will tell you the cost.
