Title: IGT Double Diamond problem
Post by: dpatrick on December 31, 2017, 11:12:57 AM
I have a IGT Double Diamond (S2000 I think) that has been working fine for several months. We picked it up and put it on a new stand last night and now it will not run through the self test or light up the front panel. The reels do not spin, the LED's for the front panel do not light up, no sound at boot up, coins fall straight back to the return tray and the reset button does nothing when pressed. The red light above the reset switch is blinking.
The reels are not locked and free spin. Also the only exterior light on is a small blue ambulance on the bill acceptor. I've checked all the fuses, replaced the power cord and checked all the connections on the plugs. Any help of what to try would be appreciated

Check the seating on the power supply behind the reels

Seemed to be good, but I removed and reseated the power supply. Same result

If it was me, I'd turn the machine off and pull/reseat the MPU, door IO board(s) and cabinet IO board. If all you did was turn it off and move it to a different stand then something is loose. Did it get bounced or anything rough while moving it?

Flashing reset lamp could mean the power supply is bad.

Do you know which MPU board is in the machine. If not at least take a picture of the lower interior with the door open.

I've reset every board I can find, not too sure about the door board. I checked and reseated all the plugs. We literally picked it straight up and set it on a new table, being careful not to bang it around. I know the reset key on the side did get turned with the machine in, not sure if that would harm anything. My buddy thought it was a release for the top half of the machine, to make it lighter to move in pieces.

I replugged the power with the inside power switch turned on and noticed the bill acceptor "inset bills" was green, then the blue ambulance icon started flashing

Does the metal cage that the MPU sits in have a solid handle or one that swivels for removing it from the cabinet?

The green Varta battery probably went bad. It can be removed but you must also remove the regulator chip at the U16 position from the MPU. You have a 1270 board. See this post:

Remove the white battery, then just clip the three legs on U16. Then carefully just pry up on the u16 and wiggle it until the rear tab snaps off. Make sure non of the clipped legs are touching that are left on the board.

Removed both but same issue. Still flashing red light right above MPU reset button and blue flashing ambulance light on bill slot

When you moved this machine, did it have coins or tokens in it?? I see it has a hopper.. Makes me wonder if doins could have gotten in back my the mother board or the power distribution box?

The red blinking light on the MPU board indicates that it is not booting the game software.  Looks like you did a good job removing the Varta battery and U16.   I'm guessing that since you have a double diamond game theme that you probably have a legacy adapter board that plugs into the MPU board.  Can you post a picture of it?  Are the top/reel/belly fluorescent lights working?

It did have quarters in it, but I made sure not to tilt it and dump them. I read on another site to check for coins shorting out. I took the distribution box out and found tokens behind it when it was brought home, but didn't see any this time. Where is the motherboard located?

The mother board is the board that the MPU plugs into as well as all the wiring.. Back behind the hopper and to the left on the back wall.. Have you check your coin battery voltage? Really don't think it's your problem.. Post a full pic of your MPU..

I'm just saying it is probably the power supply.

It's taken me a while to get back on this, but here's a picture of my board with the battery removed

I removed the power supply, all the boards, cash box, reels and reseated all the wires on them. Put it all back together, the cash box ran through it's cycle, the reels spun and I had no blue ambulance.  When I closed the door it went back to the same issue

I don't have any enhanced boards but have seen pictures of the positive connection for the battery jumped to both sides like when the battery was connected. Probably will not help, but wanted to throw it out there just in case.

Not recommend to place jumper on these boards.
I fear that your board will need to be replaced.
Nice job on the battery and regulator removal.
It will be good practice for the new one.

For what its worth I have had a couple enhanced boards that would not work with the varta and U16 removed. I had to put on a new varta and put U16 back on. Then it worked fine. Go figure.
