Title: IGT I-Game won't take bills, weird external board for WBA BV
Post by: Ash100 on December 31, 2020, 02:35:13 PM
I've got an I-Game cabinet that I just put together and have a strange looking external Board the the BV Harness runs to.

The validator is a WBA12, IDO24.

Never seen anything like this before.

Problem I'm having is this...

Acceptor is enabled and will suck in the bills but spits them right back out.

Does it have anything to do with this board? I can't find the original cabinet connectors for the standard WBA Harness. Not sure what I'm missing really.

The harness connects to J16 on the backplane if that helps.

Anyone familiar with this type of set up?

Thanks.

I've never seen anything like that.  What type of I-game cabinet is it?

Tilt,

It's a 17" 3902 Stinkin Rich game.

I've tried known good WBAs in it, still no go. Most of the time I get a Bill Validator Communication Error.

I think I'll start digging through my old harnesses and find the original validator wiring and go from there.

Thanks,

J16 is the comm port.  Normally it has a ribbon cable that connects to a comm board on the side of the AC power distribution box.  The only thing I can think of is it was part of a player tracking system of some type that also validated credits added to the machine via the bill validator?

The bill validator is normally connected to J10 on the motherboard.  If you have a spare one hook it up in the standard fashion it will probably work.

J10 was correct, misread the backplane.

Original P10 was disconnected and the wire harnesses from the external board was plugged into it.

Turns out the original wiring inside of the BV Housing was all hacked up, so I found a good housing with the validator plugs attached and plugged the other end of the P10 harness into the bottom of the housung where it belongs, all is good now.

Still don't understand why the casino did what they did, but topic us now solved. Just reverted back to the original design.

I guess it will remain a mystery board then for now.  Glad you got it working, and maybe someone will recognize that board and explain it one day?  Thanks for the followup post!

I had a few i games with the same exact boards and cut harnesses, they all had 2 holes drilled in the back of the top box too. The machines i had came from a cruise ship, i thought the boards had somthing to do with accepting different currency since one of the cash boxes had a foreign bill in it

Years back Barry Fox sent me some boards similar to that, we think it was a board to adapt different IDO protocols to the CPU and not have to reflash every bill unit to whatever jurisdiction they were in.  He also got them from cruise ships!

I recently sent those boards to Alan at KLAR to see if he could make heads or tails out of the set up, thinking perhaps we could figure it out and someday be able to use MEI units or any other unit on an S plus machine.

That would be cool if it is and you can figure it out.  I was looking around for something like awhile back and this was the only thing I came up with.  They're overseas somewhere and it was around $125.00 for the board.  Without anyone to vouch for them I didn't take a chance on it.

That makes sense, but I couldn't get either of the two boards I had to work.

The machines came out of Miami, so I'm assuming that they were on a cruise ship and may have taken foreign currency. Could also explain the lack of it accepting the US bills.

I'd be curious to know what the Validators were flashed with, but I'm pretty sure I sent out the ones that came with those 3 machines to be rebuilt and reflashed, considering they never worked in anything I put them in.

It's just too bad they hacked up the original wiring inside of the validator housing. At least I was able to find one that still had the connectors attached.

Jim or Tilt, if you're interested, I can send you a board and harness to play around with. Let me know.
