Title: Bally Alpha 2 Questions
Post by: Fixit on November 06, 2015, 08:16:26 AM
Hello,

I recently received some Alpha 2 equipment. A lot of it was gutted pretty good. The questions I have is can you use a standard button panel on all the games? Are there some that require only Ideck? If you can use the standard button panels do they need a certain Operating System. I have tried several games and it always comes up Ideck touch controller missing. I am very anxious to get my first Alpha 2 up and running. I am pretty familiar with all the Alpha 1 and V32, but it has been a guessing game with the Alpha 2. Thanks for any help.

P.S Does anybody know the Power Pinout to the BackPlane? The Power BackPlane has been removed from mine. I can make a Power connector if i Know the pinout. Thanks again.

All the newer alpha2 games require the iDeck.  There are just a few that don't.  Rule of thumb, if it works on alpha1 even if it is an alpha 2 type title (the cf card software ID has a number in the 3xxxxx range), then it will work with a standard button panel.  All the newer titles, like Michael Jackson, Lucky Tree, Grease, Skeeball, etc require the iDeck.  If you have a V32 you are trying to revive, Sea Goddess is a game that works with the standard button panel.  Playboy Hotzone is a v22/22 title that also works with standard button deck.

As far as the power connector is concerned, I don't have the pinout for the alpha 2 pro backplane (I'm assuming you have that one since you mention the missing power backplane missing).

No sea goddess will run with a standard button deck, but still requires an alpha 2 mpu and associated backplane.
