Title: New to slots, New to the boards, Not new to troubleshooting but I'm stumped.
Post by: AtomicBomb on February 22, 2017, 08:37:25 PM
Greetings NLG.  Despite being an arcade game/pin collector for nearly a decade, I've never really touched slots until now.  Just picked up my first slot, a Gold Touch multi.  Unfortunately despite booting fine, 5 seconds after boot it pops into a master lock error.  Not sure what that means.  I found a reference to it in the "Sphinx" menu with "Master Lock = 12/01/15" but no idea what that means either.  Anyone have some input for me?  Thanks.

In most gaming machines, when you have a disabled machine like that, if there's a jackpot or admin reset key, turning it will enable the machine.

I appreciate the input.  I've been through every menu I can find, and I don't see any resets like that.  In fact, I found a print-out option that shows absolutely no records on the machine.  (See attached).  I believe it's a result of that Li battery being stone dead.  Maybe I'll change that out and see if anything comes back to life.

If this is a gaming unit for a casino look for a keyswitch where someone would insert a key and turn it to do a "reset". They are often on the side of the machine or inside in a readily available place. Do you see any key locks that have wires connected to their mechanism?

This type of reset isn't a software reset in a menu, it is hardware.

I'm not familiar with this model of machine but sometimes a dead battery can cause a machine to not operate. The battery is easy to replace so I'd try it and see what happens. I think that type of battery is a 3.6vdc style.

There are 2 key switches (see pic), and I only have a key for one.  The one I have the key for gets me into a recall history menu, (pic 2) which contains no records.  The other key switch isn't hooked up, and a microswitch has been patched in instead. That gets me into an operator menu (pic 3) and I've been through just about every option there, but let me know if there's somewhere specific I should go.

P.S.
New battery made no difference.

Do either of those keyswitches turn both to the left and to the right by any chance? (meaning they have left-middle-right positions) Sometimes one keyswitch is used for 2 different functions by being able to turn both ways. Does the keyswitch that you don't have the key for have 3 wires that would go to it?

That old thread you referenced from the old NLG archive site mentioned that these machines are similar to the Pot of Gold machines. So a manual for a Pot of Gold might be easier to find and it might have useful info in it. Just an idea...

Don't worry about the second thread, it happens, a moderator can merge them if they think it is needed.

Almost forgot, Welcome to NLG !   :garfield:

So there are only 2 lines going to each switch.  Tried hitting them simultaneously and the operator menu switch takes prescident as it'll bring me to that menu from the recall menu, but not visa versa.

I contributed here to grab that pot-o-gold manual and looked through it for a while, but there's nothing in there about a master lock that I could find.  Their menu system is also a little different.

I'm noticing that as this board sits running for a while, it has a tendancy to lock up.  There's an LED on the board that lights up when I tap the screen, but it has no effect.  Neither of the menu switches work either.  Graphics will continue to move on screen though.  Weird issue.  So new plan... Assuming this board is toast, can someome recommend a good repair shop that won't cost an arm and a leg or a good replacement board that will interface with the touch screen, color LED screen above the monitor, and serial printer, while hopefully not being too expensive?  Don't need anything super crazy or new as it will just be going in my game room.

Thanks for your contribution to NLG!

I've not been around the Cadillac Jack machines so can't be much help, sorry.  Some of the NLG members from past years are not as active on the board now so I'm not sure if there is an expert available. Maybe there is someone that knows something, so keep checking in. The discussion thread on the old NLG site mentioned that the Pot of Gold machines were similar, and when I looked at the menu displayed on screen compared to your photos it is close enough in design to indicate there is some common ground, like they used the same software programmers or the two models of machines were once designed by the same company. But every machine has its own specific features, hopefully you can track down the manual for yours.

Here's a place that has a large collection of manuals, you could try contacting them to see if they'd be able to find you one:

There are some board repair places but they may only work on certain brands, you'd have to check with them. A repair place that gets mentioned often and is regarded highly is called KLAR, it is in Las Vegas.

Did you try turning the key with the door open?
