Title: New Bar Top Toy -Update!
Post by: 63mini on March 14, 2017, 05:31:05 PM

I picked this little beast up today for the pricey sum of $10.00. However, there was $5.50 in it. So, now the total cost is $4.50. She powers up and has a blue screen but, no graphics. I found a bad diode at location CR3. Which, I thought I had a cross part here. But, no go.

Hopefully, when I locate a new one this issue will be resolved. Keeping my fingers crossed since, I don't have a board schematic.

Is there a box with two stacked boards? That looks like the lower one. Can you post a picture of the entire board? I know there's other members who do here so hopefully they'll chime in. I may have a schematic - I'll check when I get home.
That's a great price especially with that cabinet!  :applause:

Yes, they are stacked. Since, it's a bar top they are side by side. This would be the right one. The left tray has the sound board.  I'll post a photo tomorrow.

The boards in the Fortune II are the same as used in the upright version. You have the MPU on the one tray. The other is the sound board and IO boards. Make sure the edge connections are clean. You also might want to reseat any socketed eproms.

As requested earlier. Below are the photos of the boards. The good news is I found another three quarters so, that brings my total cost down some more...

I played around with it yesterday and found the 120v traces on the back of the motherboard/innerconnet. These trace run up to the transformer on the main cpu. I'll repair these traces and start looking at the regulator and around on the mainboard for a short. If someone has schematics it would help.

Also, I realized that the coin chute that attaches to the monitor is MIA. So, if someone has one laying around in their junk bin. Please let me know. If not, I guess I'll be forging one on a poor man's metal brake.

I wonder if this machine was transported at some time, with those quarters rolling around? That can cause issues when it's plugged back in.

I parted out one of these a year or so back. I know that I kept the boards and monitor, but not sure if I kept any of the othe parts. I'm sure I have that mother board.e

That's amazing - the cabinet is worth more than that, good job!    :cool_thumb_up:

 Bingo! Thanks shorttrackskater.  :hail:

I don't believe the quarters were the issue. I think... That someone spilled a drink on the award glass then it ran down into the game. When, I took out the motherboard the (J10) header and connector were nasty and corroded (see below). That could have wacked the 5v or 12v (just a guess at this point).  Now that I have the schematics I can take a better look.

I have a couple other project that I need to take care of first and the replacement diodes for this are on order. So, it may be a few days before I get back to this.

Been a bit quiet here so, I'll kick up some mud in the water....

The traces are repaired and the diodes have been replaced. I then found out the 16v transformer (not the regulator) on the board tray was done. Ordered a new one and $18.00 later she is alive! Still have a few flakey issues to resolve.

The monitor flickers a bit when bumped or sometimes when coins go thru the chute (Credits are fine). So, I'll need to open the monitor housing up to see what is loose. Other than that I think she is go to go!!!

Ooop! I forgot the battery was replaced too.

That a nice looking older machine. Wish I have 1/4 of your know how when it come to fixing those boards.. I have a couple upright is like to fix, but all have problems. I've become pretty good fixing the Ceronix Chassis used in a lot of these. I know I have a box or drawer full of parts out in my garage. Just been too cold to work outside yet.

It looks great! Glad you got it mostly working. I've had a number of jiggly video issues and some were resolved by just checking connections and spraying some some contact cleaner on the CRT controls.

Just wanted to follow up. As shortrackskater stated. The contact cleaner worked for the monitor flicker.  :applause:   Oh, I almost forgot. Way can't this happen in the real world? Hit it this weekend. Guess I have to write an IOU to myself.....
