Title: Bonus Wheel Malfunction
Post by: dailey on July 09, 2019, 02:02:11 PM
I have an Alpha Elite S9000 Ultimate Party Spin. Lately it's started doing something new. I can boot the machine up and play it a while, then after about a half hour of idling the pointer on the bonus wheel starts rotating counterclockwise continuously and doesn't stop. I'm not getting any error code. Opening and closing the door seems to clear it. I don't know much about these Bally machines. Does anyone know what is happening here ?

I would start by making sure the USB cable does not have any issues (I would try a new cable connected directly from the top wheel to the mpu).

I installed a new USB cable and am trying it out now.

So far so good. The issue appears to be solved. Thanks for your help Rick.

Changing the USB cable solved the bonus wheel problem and the machine worked fine last night. Today I can't get past the boot process.

During the final stages of the boot up process when the reels are rotating, I noticed that reel #1 doesn't rotate and this part of the boot process doesn't end. Looking into the operator menu I get these messages:

Mechanical reels not configured
Mechanical reels device error
Mechanical reel 1 device error

There is nothing rubbing on reel 1.  I can turn it by hand and it rotates freely.  I tried swapping with reel #2 and the problem follows the reel.  I need help !!

The reel problem is now solved. I tried swapping reel positions and determined the problem followed reel #1. I then replaced the reel optical board (Reel Driver) and that solved the problem. See photos of the old board.
