Title: S2000 Vision series LCR screen flickers between Call attendant & game screen
Post by: luvreno on July 17, 2014, 02:42:23 PM
S2000 Vision series LCR screen flickers between Attendant screen & game screen on start up,  the flickers are fast for about 3 to 4 minutes then starts flickering slow for about 15 seconds, the game screen then finally stays on.  If you play game for awhile then turn off machine.  it will then start with no problems.  The Slot is a Little Green men :EmoticonHelp4:

Sounds like the green battery. If you have a 502 board that battery leaks and kills a trace under it. Eventually it will not work at all.

Corroded traces under the green Varta battery on a 502 (or any 500 series board) most often give erroneous Door Open errors, so I'm not 100% sure it's battery related.

I would venture to guess something is going out or perhaps even loose in your top box, more specifically, the LCD screen. Remove the top glass and turn the game on. Check all of the harnesses associated with the LCD screen and see what happens. Make sure all plugs are tight. See if you can create the flickers or eliminate the flickers. This a could point you in the right direction or at least eliminate loose harnesses.

After that, we may look at the LCD screen itself as the culprit. I'm sure some of our members can help out with troubleshooting.

Is it a 500 series board or a 1270?
If it is a 1270 board you may have to replace the green battery as it sounds like it won't hold a charge.

The point here being that the battery accumulates enough of a charge to run the game after it's turned on for a while, but borderline initially. If you have a 1270 enhanced MPU that is. If your board is a 500 series that would not be the issue. Could be other things also like possibly a power supply failing among others. We need more info on what's inside your machine

That's right. When mine was doing this it was displaying the door open message and going back to play mode. Would sometimes play for hours other times flickered back and forth so fast it would not play. When it is FLICKERING, is it giving a message or just going blank? See you said Call Attendant, does it say door open M?  I agree with Cowboy about maybe a 1270 board and the green battery is being charge slightly, even though on my 502 it did the same for months before I changed board.

yes it says door open m

The really bad news is I had a bright idea of switching the lcd screen monitor  from my  Fox & hounds to the little green men machine, I changed out the 2 cards & when it went through the initializing,  the screen came up it said error   (missing required componets)  so I switched it back to fox & hound it says the same thing (missing required componets ) so the fox & hounds doesn't work,  I connected the original lcd screen to the original machine Little green men it said  General reel tilt, call attendant restart, closure MB

So to sum things up when I started I had a working little green men machine that took a while for the screen to come up, now I have 2 machines that don't work !!!
I really screwed things up  I could f**k up a anvil in a sand pile !

Your original problem could be what cvslots said, a corroded green battery has damaged the traces underneath it or it could simply be that your door optics aren't lining up completely. On your fox and hound, try opening and closing the door a few times to see if it resets.

If it is the red screen saying missing components, I fixed that on another machine by changing the LCD Battery. Remove the 7 screws from the back of the monitor and remove the back cover. You will see a button battery 2032. Cut the cable tie and it will slide out

I removed coin battery, I have to order the battery, I checked the old battery it was no good,  Also I'm sure cv slots was correct on the green battery, lot of corrosion around battery, hope the board is still good.  I also ordered that varta battery.  it will be some time next week before they  arrive.  I will advise,  Thanks for all your help, I'm not going to give up.  I'm also ordering a clear chip & key chip from cv slots today.

That 2032 battery is available anywhere, most common one around next to a 357 battery

If your board is the older 502 or 504 type you don't need the green battery at all, just remove the old battery and clean the area with distilled vinegar and a brush. You can usually clear a general reel tilt by opening the door, turn the jackpot key, then close the door. Changing the battery in your top box is a good idea, but you might just want to check that you put the memory cards back in the right slots.

Its  not a 2032 battery, the battery I removed from both machines is a 2335 it is bigger than the 2032, this battery is not readly available.
thanks for the information on cleaning the board after I remove the varga battery

Looking it up the 2335 is 23.0mm and the 2032 is 20.0mm. Just when you think you know something, you get a reality check. I bet the 2032 would fit just fine. It is still 3.0 vdc.

I can't find a picture of a 502 for you. Here's one. It also say Super Stepper Controller.

all problems solved, after I removed green battery the little green men worked, just had to restart & turn reset key several times.  The Fox & hound I had the cards in the wrong slot, its perfect
Thanks so much for your help, I will be able to sleep better tonight :applause:

That damn green battery, I just posted last week how simply removing one from my 504 board made my door optics work again.  I assume you must have had a 500 series board?

Removing the Green Varta Battery is the best way to protect a 500 series board. It is the first thing I do when I get a machine.
