Title: Just bought my first WMS Monkees Machine
Post by: mr2bob on July 22, 2014, 06:35:40 PM
Hello everyone, Newbie here…. I just  purchased my first Slot Machine last week. Great information here and it lead me to buy from SamRonslots. Also they had the machine I wanted. . It is a WMS 5 reel mechanical Monkees machine. It arrives this week and it is for my wife's birthday. Will not see it for a couple weeks because I am traveling and will not be home till after the first of August. Wife knows nothing about it, she will be surprised. Just a couple questions:I believe this is a Bluebird 1 model?I want to add a topper to it, will only a WMS (Williams) model fit without modifications? I am a retired Biomedical Engineer so I have been working on electronic and mechanical devices for over 30 years, so I hope to do the work myself for any upgrades (topper) or repairs.  As soon as I get the machine set up I will let everyone know how everything is working. So far Ron at SamRonslots has been great. Below is a picture of the machine before it shipped from Ron. Thanks, Bob

Yes, it is a Bluebird 1 machine, and although you could propbably adapt just about any topper to any machine, save yourself a headache and just stick with the WMS toppers, they are all about the same $$$ anyway.

Bob,  It looks like a nice game!.   The topper thing should not be that big of a issue for it.  Given your back ground as per your post you should take to this stuff easilly.  Also welecome aboard If no one said it earlier--777.

Thanks guys for the welcome. Just got word it is being delivered this afternoon. Will not be home for 2 weeks.  Wife's birthday is 8/3, so that is going to work out great since she is with me. Ron hasn't found me me a WMS topper yet so I am going to start looking myself. I agree, stay with the WMS topper, anyway I like the way it looks. Any good source for WMS toppers? I see a lot of Bally and IGT stuff but very little WMS. Look forward in being part of this group, even though I can see buying and diddling with this things could be addictive. lol

Ahh, if only you knew just how addictive this can get.  Wait until you get home, setup the machine and go to sleep.  Within a few days they will mysteriously multiply. This is how it's going to go...

Gee, this is pretty slick, I wonder what I can add to this?  Wait, you can buy a glass kit and replace the one that is there and basically get a new machine for under $100 worth of parts? 15 kits later...

This is a mechanical reel bluebird, those video bluebirds sure look fun.  What? I can convert my 5 reel bluebird to a video machine with a few hundred bucks worth of parts?  A few hundred dollars worth of parts later...

This changing the machine back and forth is a hassle, I should just get a video bluebird and be done with it...

And then there were two...

You know those quick hit machines at the casino's are a lot of fun, I wonder what they go for...

Rick,
I did buy the FIRST one for the wife....ha ha ha....  now I sure I going to need another .... for me. Cause' she will never let me change her beloved Monkee machine once she sees it and I will have to have one to tear apart again and again. You are right I didn't think this all the way through. Oh well it's only time and money. lol

You summed that up PERFECTLY Rick...LOL!

Welcome to the slot world Bob! I started off with a Bally M9000...then a Bally 5 Reel mechanical Cash Wheel game, which I am trying to convert to a transparent 5 reel... then a Bally Cinevision... and my latest is WMS Bluebird Video...lol I love to mess around with the cabs. I turned a Bally M9000 and added a second monitor to it which I can rotate Vertically and horizontally so I can play Fireball and other V32 games. If you need any help with anything let any one of us know. There are a few humble people on here including myself that are willing to help!

Rick,
Yeah I seen and played the video Monkee machine before, plays a lot different. Don't like as well as the reel Monkee game. Still a good game and I could always tell her its for her. lol  Might be a great 2nd game to get is it a BB1 or BB2. Good one to tear into and change up. Thanks again for the warm welcome from all. Just got news my machine was delivered to my house in Phoenix. Two more weeks to see it.

The Monkees is a bb1 title.  A bb2 would be really good as a second machine, but it a bit pricey right now (over 4k).  Get used to your bb1 reel game, I love mine.  But soon you will want more, trust me.

I was surfing the net, trying to find a deal on a WMS video Monkees machine and I found this thread. What is funny I bought a WMS Monkees Machine from the same people in November 2013, he said they we rare. Must have a few in the back. Love my machine and would love a video one but the reel machine is really great. It makes a great conversation piece at parties.

If you are in the Phoenix area there was a member on here yesterday offering a dual screen bluebird with the fishing game. I know he's located in Surprise. Not a long trip for you....

On a dual screen like this the lower screen plays the basic game and the upper screen is a touch screen that plays the bonus rounds. The title I was referring to earlier is Reel'em In. Check YouTube for a video of it or any other similar games

Just to clarify, the Upper screen is not a touch screen.

It is pretty rare.  I had never seen a reel version of the game until this post -- only the video version.

Use to be a few Monkees 5 reels in Las Vegas at the MGM and The Palazzo we would play. They all seemed to disappear about a year ago and we couldn't find any in the spring when we were there.
