Title: Igt Avp 3.0 cpu
Post by: The laneman on January 19, 2024, 11:27:07 AM
What is involved in changing from a avp 3.0m 50062100w brainbox to a 3.0ME brainbox ( i.e. 660- 4 GB memory, SSD, E4690 Dual DVI video card)so I could run family 20 games?

I do believe you can add ram, video card, and SSD to 3.0M and have the same thing?  But fam20 games do not run right on fam14 MPU and 4.0/Fam20 MPU wont run on a 3.0 cabinet.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I think you listed most of it, but you'll also need a DVI cable(s) or adapter(s) too.  I'm not sure if there's processor speed differences between the two or not.  If you have to buy a video card though you may want to consider just purchasing a 660 brainbox outright.  GET-T has them on sale at the moment for $150.00 w/$15.00 shipping.  I ordered one and got it a couple of hours ago.  It came with 4GB even though the ad says 2GB.  It has the BIOS chip on the PCI card, but not the PLCC chip on the processor board.  I haven't tested it yet, but it had a tested by and name on the ATX power supply cover and is really clean so I think it'll be fine.  YMMV on the memory and BIOS chips.

Beware some Fam 20 games even the 660 doesn't have enough processor power to run smoothly and some won't work at all.

My plan was going to order a 660 brainbox from them.
How much did they charge for shipping?
How do I connect the power? The 660 has a different molex power plug than than 100?

Shipping is $15.00 flat rate for up to 20lbs.

I think the connector on the back of your ATX board now comes off and plugs into the front of the 660 brainbox.  The 660 has the ATX card inside of it vs external on yours.

Yep, I bought one too.  Helluva deal considering what you get and how much the individual parts go for these days by themselves.

Same here. Still waiting on it to arrive as everything takes forever to get up here in AK. Now if I can find a good deal on a 4.0 box..

I also have the 50062100w brainbox.  What is the advantage of getting a 660?

It's the same as a 625 brainbox except the USB PSU is on the inside instead of the top like the 625 has.  You can use this box, just need a different power cable for it if you have a 625 now.

But the most important part.  It has an E4690 PCIE video card installed already as the 660 doesn't have on board video so they all have the PCIE video card in them.  Hard to find anyone selling an E4690 card for under $250 (usually $299) for just the video card.  So if you have a 625, it's well worth it just for the card, and you can simply put the video card in your 625 brainbox and you connect your screens to the card, not the on-board video ports and done, then you don't need a different power cable.  And just keep rest of the the box as a spare just in case.  I've bought 3 from them, all good boxes.  Even has a working factory 80GB SSD in them.  May/may not have bios chips, but that's easy to get.

Your machine will run much better video wise with the E4690 video card.  It's basically the same as a 625 otherwise, but it has the PCIE video card.  And aside from it saying it has 2GB RAM.  All the ones I received had 4GB of RAM.
