Title: IGT - Aristocrat topper retro fit
Post by: bally bob on January 31, 2015, 01:40:35 PM
I bought a IGT topper and plan to put it on a Bally EM 1091 lowboy slot. I read posts about wiring the topper. Got out my box of old plug in wall chargers. Measured the voltage, the 12 volt measured 17 or 18 volts the 6 volt measured 8 volts, of course without any load. Anyway was paranoid about blowing out the LED ring, noticed it has some circuitry on the underside. Is this a circuit that in addition to making the leds flash and rotate also regulates the voltage and current draw?  On my bench I hooked up the 8 volts to the ring, it worked and looked great. Then put the 17 and 8 in series for the 25 volts to the fluorescent and that worked and looked good too. My question is will the LED ring handle the 17 volts from my 12 volt charger, will it reduce down to 12 under load? I'm sure they will be brighter, however they looked and operated fine with the 8 volts. Again the voltages were measured without a load. Anyone see a problem in combining the 8 and 17 volt supplies? Additionally I bought an Aristocrat graphic I liked. Naturally they are different sizes, but close enough to make it work. I carefully removed the adhesive graphic from the plastic on the IGT. Now I need to attach the Aristocrat mylar (or whatever it is) graphic to the plastic and cover just a small area on each end to make it look right, maybe a black or silver. Has anyone else done this before or have any suggestions? I bought the Aristocrat because it said 25 cents, couldn't find an IGT. And any input on the power supplies would be appreciated.

Got it mounted on my machine. Turned out good. Had to punch holes in the Aristocrat graphic to match the led layout on IGT topper frame. Trimmed it a little and mounted it on back of the plexiglass. Removed the light tower from the top of the machine and drilled new holes in the IGT topper to match the mounting holes, wired it in and it fired right up. Attached a picture.

Bally Bob, the son or the Dad? The light ring should not have more than 12 VDC or you chance blowing it. I have a few of those power supplies also that say 12v but have 18v and have blown a topper ring or two. Never thought to try 18v for the 25v flour.
