Title: DBV-200 Bill Head Question
Post by: Amechanic on July 31, 2020, 05:44:53 PM
I have a S+ Slot Machine with a DBV-200 head. I want to up grade to the latest soft wear version, but this head doesn’t have a eprom socket, it must be flashed. My question is can I install/solder a chip socket to the bottom board and then burn myself the up date, or do I need to remove the chip first that sits right in the middle of where the socket would go? I don’t want to remove that chip on the board if it’s going to damage the board.

Gary, you have to remove the flash chip before adding the socket. I've heard someone say they did it with an exacto knife but I wouldn't attempt it without a hot air station. It would probably be easier to just find someone to flash it. I'm not positive but Jim (Midwest Slots) might be able to do that. I can do WBAs & UBAs.

Thanks Ron for the fast response. I have a cheap hot air station, that I have used it to remove parts off a old 502 board, so it should do the job. I just didn’t want to install the socket only to find out that the flash chip had to come off first. It will cost more to ship it bill head back and forth, then to have the flash done.
