Just picked up a 1961 Mills open front slot. The crome and glass are in excellent shape and the machine works as well. The only item that I don't care for is the stand. The hopper and power supply are a separate unit and are attached to the stand below the SM. Does anyone have ideas for a replacement stand. I will need to cut the face to place the coin tray in.

Please post a picture of the slot and one with the door open as well. If this is a 1961, it must have some kind of aftermarket hopper.

Sorry I never got back to you on this. I'm surprised no one else chimed in as well. I think we're losing members who used to know this stuff.
Did you able to find a stand? Is there any date on the machine? I don't think Mills came out with hoppers until the late 60's or even very early 70's and it was already too late in the game for them to be competitive with Bally.
From the pictures, it appears to me that this machine is a "Jackpot Only" type. The later models had hoppers attached. I have a Mills M head and the hopper is integrated into the machine, just below the mechanism very similar to a Bally... well less parts since it just paid on there three jackpots.
Your cabinet IS original and not aftermarket as I thought in my first reply.
I think one of those aftermarket "White Clad" ice box stands would be cool but you'd have to add a shelf in the middle for the hopper and maybe cut out a hole in the front door, then add a small (Bally would probably work) coin tray that could be attached to the door, but you'd have to be creative and fill in where the door is recessed.

I would keep the original stand. You dont see this combination often, Usually, they have replaced it with something that just works. Being original really adds to the value of the machine, and mostly as far as I am concerned, to what I value it at. BUT ... with me, the real value is only to me. I really care about what the machine is and its origin. I am more focused on what it was, than what it is. If I can help in any way, please PM me and I will reply.

Until recently did not know the stand was an original. Sturdy but not in the best of shape. Can they be resurfaced? The bottom has a few ruff spots.
Love the machine an engineering marvel. Love the old ones. Any idea of the value Dave?

It looks great, but I do agree with Dave here, and would definitely KEEP that original stand as well.
But I think you were saying that you just preferred this kind of stand over the other one, correct?

Agree to keep the original stand however not the best looking addition to the mancave. The wife likes the original stand too. Look like a Craigslist freezer item in the near future

This is Monti, the friend I have who has the MILLS M-Head with the hopper of which we were talking about and your friend Caesar and I are communicating about as well has posted his questions here below on this other thread here on the forum!

Caesar agrees that Sam's M-Head was an after market modification as it does not look like it was done by the factory but with this above link maybe we can get Sam's machine figured out!
