Title: WBA - SS11 - DEAD - WILLIAMS 550
Post by: GOS on March 17, 2016, 09:09:32 AM
Just closed out the tread on the problem I had with a Williams 550 video - the bill validator WAS working prior to Power Supply IO and CPU repairs  - This is a WBA SS11 transport but has a board attached (see pictures) - substituting another WBA transport - this one gets power okay - but won't work as it needs that board (according to SPIN).  Is this just simply a replacement of the board (it is attached) - no lights at all.

That board changes your validator to an RS-232 serial interface.  WMS at then end did away with that board and provided their own solution attached to the back of the validator cage.  If you have another WBA 11 that is known to be working on another machine, you could just swap them out and install the board and eprom with correct firmware on the other validator to see if it works.  If the RS-232 board is bad you are going to have to find another one of those, or get the WMS rs-232 bv interface with necessary harnesses, or you could get an mei validator 6607 with the correct harness and firmware.

i have a wba11 that powers up in the Williams so it is not dead - however - comparing the dead and alive units - the live version has an eprom the williams (dead) has flash. So do I transfer the board(s) from the dead unit to the live unit and hope for the best?

You can move the RS-232 board to the other one, but you will also need to replace the eprom with an IDO03 software.

i only have one working ss11 and it has eprom memory - the williams has flash.  So I would need to find the correct eprom for Williams?

Yes, the Eprom for wms is IDO03.
